Murphy Added to Irish Squad Sunday, 10th Oct 2010 21:24 Town keeper Brian Murphy has been called up to the Republic of Ireland squad for their Euro 2012 qualifier with Slovakia in Zilina on Tuesday. The 27-year-old has been added to the travelling party as a replacement for Coventry’s Keiren Westwood, who picked up a facial injury in training.
Waterford-born Murphy is yet to win a full cap but has regularly been named in Giovanni Trapattoni's squads over the last year.
Despite Murphy’s lack of action for the Blues this season — he’s only played in Carling Cup matches — manager Roy Keane was surprised that the former Bohemians man hadn’t initially been named: “I can’t believe that Murph our goalkeeper isn’t in the Irish squad. Certain players seem to get picked all the time and others I’m left scratching my head about.”
Town loanee Darren O'Dea was originally included but was forced to withdraw due to his knee injury.
