McCarthy and Connor Extend Town Contracts
Friday, 22nd Jan 2016 13:14

Town boss Mick McCarthy and his assistant Terry Connor have extended their contracts until the summer of 2018 with options to remain at the club for two further years. The duo, who previously worked together at Wolves, took over at Portman Road in November 2012 and signed three-year contracts in the summer of 2014.

“TC and I are obviously delighted to have extended our contracts,” McCarthy told the club site.

“We are really enjoying the job here and the results on the pitch have improved year on year.

“In a relentless and tough league that the Championship is, that is testament to the hard work the players have put in.

“I think we have a team we can all be proud of and it’s mine and TC’s job to make sure that continues.”

Ian Milne, Town’s managing director, added: “It’s obviously great news that Mick and Terry have agreed contract extensions at the football club.

“We have also signed up a number of our players on long-term contracts over the past year or so who have been at core of the team and with Terry and Mick in charge of that team we will continue to have a stable foundation to build on over the coming seasons.”

I think Mick likes it here - he says he gets paid well for what he does, maybe things are a bit 'cushy' between him and the owner!?

'Results improved year on year' - really? I could show you some statistics that they haven't!

TimmyH - love to know what stats you are looking at. The stat that really matters is league position and that has steadily improved under MM.

I think some people are quick to forget the dross that we had to put up with under both Keane and Jewell. Mick's football might not be the prettiest to watch but he and TC kept us up in the 2012/13 season when we would have probably been relegated under anyone else. We might have bounced right back up or we might have been another Leeds / Sheffield United who struggled to return...

I for one am very pleased they've extended their contracts, I believe that they will take us up.

COYB!

Excellent news. Stability is the bedrock of our success, and Mick and Terry have done a great job. From bottom of the table to Play-Offs last season, and hopefully we will make the top six again this season. That's a superb achievement without spending money on transfer fees.

I wonder what the 2018 to 2020 options are and what targets are behind those?

Despite what I would a vocal minority believe, I think this is fantastic news!

Yes the football isnt the greatest quality but after out years of struggle we really need consistency and hope and the job Mick and TC have done gives us just that. We have secured, what in my view, is the best manager we could possibly have GIVEN the finances we have to work with. Whilst adhearing to Financial Fair Play I honestly think Mick is our best bet of promotion and I wish him and the team all the best going forward. COYB!

The first three comments are just typical of why I tend to steer clear of the news comments bit of this site.

Oh dear God no! Another 2 years of sub standard players played out of position and hoofing the ball. Plus another 2 years of Championship football. Sad days at ITFC

At the risk of getting lots of negative votes, for me the jury is still out on MM.

In my humble opinion as a season ticket holder, shareholder and supporter for 40+ years all he's really done for us in general is to make us more difficult to beat and therefore results have been better than before his time in charge.

I still yearn to watch good football and fear it will never happen under MM and his long ball/hoofball tactics!

I'm really not sure a contract extension at this time was the right thing, maybe when we know what's occurred at the end of this season.

But hey that's only my opinion, just one amongst thousands!

There's some proper a-hole posters on here. Most likely our six fingered friends from Norfolk.

Well done Mick and Terry. Much deserved!

Statistics don't really count for anything when your league position has improved year on year thus far does it. Excellent news.

Let's hope he can get in a creative midfielder & play his best keeper, one who controls his box & defence

Ooops ... accidentally strayed into the comments section again!
I see that Spunk Trumpets 1, 2 and 3 were very quick off the draw today.

And great news about the contracts. We are very lucky to have MM and TC.
