Alabi Leaves By Mutual Consent

Striker James Alabi has left the Blues after his contract was terminated by mutual consent.

The 21-year-old joined Town as a member of Mark Kennedy’s development squad having been released by Stoke in the summer, signing a one-year deal with an option for a second season.

His only first-team appearance was as a sub in the Capital One Cup tie at Doncaster in August in which he scored, giving him the unique Town records of netting a senior goal for the club without playing a game at Portman Road and making just one appearance and scoring in that game.

Before Christmas Alabi spent time on loan with Grimsby (pictured) in the Vanarama National League, making two starts and three sub appearances, scoring two FA Trophy goals.

mutters added 15:33 - Jan 28 Squad gets smaller, more money comes free. Quick cheeky bid at the end of the window or use saved wages on a good loan deal. Make sense to me as he never really played anyway. Ditto the others that are leaving, they weren't exactly starters now were they?

PhilTWTD added 15:38 - Jan 28 Not a first-team squad member, in the development squad, signed as one who might have a chance of progressing in future years rather than for the present. Either hasn't made the progress hoped for - and not really made an impression the last couple of times I've seen him - or wants to move on for first team football.

HighgateBlue added 15:41 - Jan 28 It's disappointing that these signings haven't worked out, but given that they haven't, it's probably best for everyone's sake for the players concerned to move on. If that frees up some wages in order for another crack in the freebie market, then why not? Mick's record overall in that section of the market is pretty good.

karls_dad added 15:42 - Jan 28 There are so many players that are picking up a wage every month, this has to come from somewhere? i expect more to be released by the week, this is hopefully going to free up some of the wage account for sone new blood, but it does seem to be that things down at PR are not good at the moment??

If he's not going to make it, we don't want to pay him, and, if he's got the right attitude, he will want to go somewhere where he does have a chance of playing. Sorry it didn't work out, but no point in hanging on to dead wood.

You can only select 18 players each week so there are always going to be fringe players who never get a game.
That goes right back to sir bobby
Robin turner as an example, if your not happy just to take the wages then only option is to move on.
Good luck to the lad he has been at a club which is very much like a team from the seventies same 11 every week unless an injury or suspension.

What are the clubs scouts up to recommending a player that hardly got a kick in the first team.
Unfortunately there are several others Toure(who may have been recommended by Bru?).Coke,Tabby,Reg
,Kevin Foley,Cameron Stewart,Digby,Malarczyk and Elliott Hewitt.
I would be surprised if many of them were here after the summer,although to be fair 2 or 3 of them have not really had a chance in the first team;but then neither had Alabi.
