Goldson Move in Doubt After Brighton's Denswil Deal Collapses
Thursday, 31st Aug 2017 13:32

Town’s loan move for Brighton centre-half Connor Goldson has been thrown into doubt with Club Brugge defender Stefano Denswil's loan switch to the Seagulls having broken down.

As previously reported, Albion boss Chris Hughton wants to add another centre-back to his squad before allowing Goldson to join the Blues.

Denswil travelled to Sussex last night to - it was thought - complete the formalities on his switch but Club Brugge have now announced that they have pulled the plug on the move due to another player, Benoît Poulain, being unavailable for longer than had previously been anticipated.

Brighton are now likely to look elsewhere for central defensive cover ahead of tonight’s 11pm deadline before they will allow Goldson to complete his move to Portman Road.

The 24-year-old travelled to Town this morning to undergo a medical and to formalise a season-long loan to the Blues.

Town are understood to have alternative targets they may look to if they are unable to get the Goldson deal done before tonight's deadline.

Please please please we were not naive enough to just relying on this, (based on the fact we we would only get him if brighton get there man) we NEED another CB...

Let's hope all eggs one basket Ipswich usual stance is not going to prevail.

I wonder why this process always has to be so last-minute. I'm guessing we will get someone in, but it might not be whom we really wanted.

...you could just foresee this happening. It's what happens when you throw all your eggs into one basket.

Standard ITFC approach is to put all eggs in the same basket, deal collapses and we get nobody. A CB is absolutely crucial so let's hope it doesn't break down.

Hopefully we can get someone in before the window shuts

We need a CB now

We should try elsewhere now as we don't want to just be relying on Brighton getting someone else in. Looking like this could all go very wrong

This is typical Ipswich Town last minute deals, I am so disappointed with the way this side of the club operates, I really wonder if Mr Evans actually wants promotion.

Depends on the CB.

One of the players we may be looking at is Liam Fontaine (according to a reliable source). Experienced and hairy...yes...but feel Spence and Knudsen would be better in that position.

Just hope we don't make the same mistakes as in previous seasons and sign a poor quality player just to appease fans.

We might end up with 2 new CB's as a result of this?

I despair - where have you boys been the last couple of months. Our basic transfer business has been completed and in my view, and the view of many posters on here it was done well. It was under the radar and our business with Rangers is to be commended.
Here we have an emergency signing to cover exceptional injuries on a loan arrangement. Why all the bleating about all eggs in one basket, typical Ipswich etc. Most of our business is done and dusted.
The report notes that Town have alternative targets but as with many such loan arrangements they require the linking of ins with outs.

Chill!

Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear. Typical us.

And btw, Brighton won't be too put out if the whole thing falls through, they still have Goldson as back up. It's us that suffers as usual.

Evans has had 2 weeks to sign someone. As i suspected all along we will end up with no one and going through another month with no centre half. Laughable.

Everyone moaning on here about the last minute deals, just because they're on deadline day doesn't mean that deals aren't planned for months upon months, they just go through on the final day. We will have a Plan B - it's how all businesses work, I just hope we can execute said plan.

I think it unfair that the deadline day for the EPL is the same as that for the EFL. We should be able to buy or loan Prem players once their squads are finalised. Maybe for another week afterwards. Also, the international break doesn't help as players may return injured so clubs may keep fringe players just in case.

is a defence really necessary ?
why not play attackers everywhere ?

GiveusaWave added 14:12 - Aug 31
No need to panic. If we do sign nobody it is better than signing someone just for the sake of it. We've done that before, particularly with the Coke/Toure year, and that didn't go well.

Everyone stop blubbing. You don't know who else we're talking to. Let's wait and see.

What's wrong with some people. This situation where we desperately need to sign a cb, could not have been foreseen. How many times do clubs have 3 cbs all injured at same time? So there was no real need to sign ne1 particularly with the fact that Iorfa, Spence and Knudsen can all cover there. Do that's why it's been last minute. And remember, the 1st link with Goldson was 2 weeks ago so it's not been done before due to Brightons need to sign a replacement that's meant it's gone to the last day of the window. Plus to those saying it's typical Ipswich, are we The only club trying to sign players today? No, loads of clubs doing so.

Well we'vw been here before and ended up picking over the dregs so this is nothing new for the McCarthy/Evans pertnership.

Still think Titus is worth a shout.

New Denswil deal or no one joins us, we don't care?

No evidence all our eggs are in one basket. Seems we have explored many baskets but this is the one we want. Also seems all was agreed at which point I dare say other baskets were rejected.

Love it when the club gets slated for doing exactly as all other teams.

Maybe we have plan b. Fair to say we have found plenty of baskets thus far during the window.
