Nash to Leave Town
Tuesday, 11th May 2021 17:07

Long-serving academy coach Gerard Nash is the latest member of the Blues staff to leave the club.

Nash, 34, had been in a role where he was working on analysis of the first-team’s opposition, while also monitoring the progress of players out on loan, while also having some involvement in coaching youngsters.

Until September last year, the Dubliner had been the U23s coach, having been in charge of the U18s from 2013 until 2016. From 2006 to 2012 he was assistant academy manager.

Nash became an academy coach after his fledgling playing career as a centre-half was ended in 2006 after he suffered cruciate knee ligament injuries, having made one senior sub appearance for the Blues in addition to spells on loan at Hartlepool and Southend. He had joined the Blues’ academy as a scholar in 2002.

Capped by the Republic of Ireland at U17 level, Nash has twice been linked with the manager’s job at hometown club St Patrick’s Athletic in recent years.

Quite obviously been the most dedicated and loyal of contributors ; we wish him every success in whatever he chooses to do in the years ahead .

While it's a shame to see some of these guys leave we have all been crying out for a new era, for change and that's what we are getting - will we agree with every decision being made ? No .... but the alternative of continuing to stagnate is much worse imo

Good luck Gerard! You have served our club loyally and deserve better but I suppose if we want change then these things have to happen.

Very sad this, especially given his playing career was cruelly cut short, and that he has made steady progress through the academy coaching ranks. I really do hope that he finds quality employment
elsewhere very soon. Best of luck mate.

all the best thank you for your service young man

So who’s taking his place then ? Francis Jeffers??

therein61 added 18:26 - May 11
Sorry to see him go, but he will not be out of work for long he has been a very reliable member of the back room staff taking on duties that perhaps he didn't want at times.

Good luck Mr Nash

On a more positive note, no more jobs for the boys perhaps.....

Has done well and was highly regarded for his work with the youngsters, I accept things are changing but sad to see this guy go, believe he will have a good managerial career and come back and manage Town one day. All the best Nashy.

Best of wishes to Nash,

It's quite refreshing to see changes throughout the club though!

Would love to know who made this call. Sickening. I suppose it is too much to ask that the sweeping brush will only get rid of the rubbish at the club. Just feel the Nydam call and Nash call leave a bad taste in the mouth. Good luck to them both. Hope the future is kinder to them.

Good luck Nashy, you've done a decent job.

I am very sad about this. Had always hoped he becone manager one day. I hope he will be back eventually.

Maybe restructuring means his job no longer exists in it's current guise? Either way, a shame but hope Nashy gets a good role elsewhere and who knows? He may even replace the legendary Klug one day.

Nashie, all the best mate. I really enjoyed working with you during my time at the academy. We had some great laughs, you are a true gent and have always been a great servant to the club. Hope to see you in Norway some time soon ;)

Just Klug to go then.

Anyone know what the story is with Holy, Morris, Nolan, Clements, Andoh and Hughes - all out of contract. Did they get a 1 year extension or shown the door?

Taricco_Fan added 21:22 - May 11
The club needs a reset.

We sure are getting one.

Portman_Pie added 01:29 - May 12
Dear oh dear... it’s the Paul H*rSt eta taking another toll.. Just to put it on record - we’ll finish 12th at best next season - with bloated back room staff made up of Scouse rejects, having let town legends go - MARK MY WORDS....

Steve_ITFC_Sweden added 05:02 - May 12
Not clear how letting go a ”superb coach” (according to Klug) is going to improve us. I understand a new manager wants his own people, but in this case I doubt they are better, or even as good, as what we had. Bad move.
