Town Sign John-Jules on Loan
Wednesday, 22nd Jun 2022 18:06

Town have signed Arsenal striker Tyreece John-Jules on loan for the 2022/23 season.

“I’m excited to get started,” the 21-year-old told iFollow Ipswich. “I’ve been thinking about it for a while but I’m sure I’ve made the right decision.

“I had a meeting with the manager [Kieran McKenna] and people around me, and they had nothing but positive things to say about the club.

“I want to help the team as much possible, and contribute with as many goals and assists as I can. Hopefully, by doing that, I’ll help the team get back to where they need to be.”

Blues boss McKenna added: “There’s a lot to admire in Tyreece’s game. He’s someone I’ve known and followed throughout his youth career at Arsenal and in the England set-up.

“He’s a really talented and versatile forward who can play in a number of different positions. He has a really high technical level and can play off of both feet.

“If he can get a consistent run of form, then he is an extremely talented player with very high potential. We’re very excited to have him on board.”

John-Jules, who has been with the Gunners since joining them aged eight from Charlton, has previously had spells on loan with Lincoln, Doncaster, and last season with Blackpool and then Sheffield Wednesday.

While with the Owls from January he made only one sub appearance, coincidentally against the Blues at Hillsborough, after suffering a quad injury, having made nine starts and played three games from the bench for the Tangerines, both without scoring.

In 2020/21 while with Rovers he netted five times in 15 starts and six sub appearances.

The season before with the Imps John-Jules scored once in seven starts having signed in the January of the Covid-curtailed campaign.

Born in Westminster, John-Jules has been capped by England at U16, U17, U18, U19 and U21 levels and is the nephew of actor Danny John-Jules.

The striker is yet to make a competitive senior appearance for his parent club but has regularly trained with their first team squad and scored in a friendly against Al-Nasr Dubai SC in March 2019.

John-Jules is Town's fourth signing of pre-season and the second frontman following the recruitment of free agent Freddie Ladapo following his Rotherham release.

The Blues will find out their League One opponents tomorrow morning when the fixtures are announced with the Papa John's Trophy and Carabao Cup draws later in the day.

Literally scored a Hat-trick against me on football manager this afternoon 😂

Welcome TJJ, promising young striker. Maybe one more, especially if Piggot is on the way out and that's a solid league 1 strike force.

Wow, I don't know this lad, but he is a current England U21 and sounds like he will add pace, power and technical ability. Welcome to ITFC John-Jules.

Huge potential. He could be a very important addition if he gets himself match fit and can avoid injury.

Like the fact our transfer business being done shrewdly, without lots of speculation and early for a change! Seeing the more professional recruitment set up come to the fore it seems. COYB!

Loan seasons over the last two have been mixed - did okay for Doncaster in 2020/21 before getting injured scoring 5 from 18 but last season didn't get much game time with Blackpool and then Sheff Wed...not sure what to expect to be honest.

Another early addition to the squad which is promising. We need to add goals to the team as struggled at the back end of last season. Whether or not this guy is the answer, time will tell. Goal scoring record on career so far is very modest. Good luck to the lad.

One Tyreece in and one out by the looks of it.

I'm certainly starting to form a view about the team Kieran is looking to build at Town - height, pace physicality and versatility which are attributes we've lacked for many years.

Delighted about this. I really hope he proves to be more of a sensation than Louie Barry was. I think Mckenna is hedging his bets a little and that he's not 100% confident, by the 'If he can get a good run of form' comment. However, he's clearly seen something and thinks he is worth a punt and that will do me. Other clubs took punts on Ian Rush, Ian Wright, Jamie Vardy etc and they weren't playing in Arsenal's U21s!! Here's hoping....

We may actually be a threat from corners this season.

I think KMK knows what he's doing. He's seen this lad at international level and we all know you have to have quality to play international football. I'm sure KMK will get the best out of this boy who sounds physically perfect for us.

This is the one i've been waiting for, we now have a front line that will challenge. All we need now is to get another attacking midfielder and this squad feels complete. A few exits next i predict

Don't know this guy and whilst his video clips show some skills it will be interesting to see how he copes against hardened league 1 defenders. Here's hoping..
So far this this transfer window, 3 freebies and a loan. Quite a contrast from last year. Let's hope we've found some bargains coyb

Think he will more a bench player with Jackson and Ladapo being the main strikers, he stats don't set the world alight but there again nor did Burns.

Hoping he is ready to push on this season more so than Barry did last year.

Great we are signing player early

Timmyh. Ge played 11 games at Blackpool. Think tbe jump up to the championship was maybe a step too far. Only played 1 for sheff weds bcse he picked up a bad quad injury, thus didn't play again.
