Morsy Not On Pre-Season Trip as Town Exit to Kuwait Nears
Tuesday, 15th Jul 2025 10:31

Town skipper Sam Morsy has not travelled with the rest of the squad for the pre-season trip to Austria, staying behind to facilitate his move away from the club.

The Egyptian international was spotted around town yesterday with the rest of the first team having flown out for the training camp early in the morning.

Reports over the weekend linked Derby County but also clubs in the Middle East with TWTD revealing a side in Kuwait was interested in signing him.

The EADT is reporting that club to be Kuwait FC, which seems likely to be Kuwait SC, who are based in the capital Kuwait City and are champions of their Premier League.

While the Blues would have demanded a fee from an English club, the Egypt international will be allowed to leave for free to an overseas side with the move being weighed-up by the player and his family.

Morsy, who has a year left on his contract with no new deal on the table, has been a key man in Kieran McKenna’s team since the Blues boss took charge in December 2021 having been signed by Paul Cook, who previously managed him at Chesterfield and Wigan, late in the preceding summer transfer window from Middlesbrough.

However, Wolverhampton-born Morsy found himself on the bench on occasion during the latter stages of 2024/25 and looked set to find himself out of the XI in the season ahead with Town having made the signing of Azor Matusiwa from Rennes, who plays a similar role.

If the move is completed, Dara O’Shea looks certain to take over the captaincy having worn the armband when Morsy was out of the side last season.

Within minutes of Sam's debut, I posted on here that Morsy is brilliant. And that view has never changed. Such an influential player and standard-setting captain. He has driven the change at ITFC as much as McKenna and Ashton.
However, Old Father Time doesn't allow respite for any of us, and that includes Sam. We are now witnessing a rebirth of ITFC, and whatever path Sam chooses, we can only bow down in appreciation for what he has done, and watch in awe as the club goes from strength to strength. .

If Sam goes, it will be a huge loss for us. He is the heart and soul of this team that he led so well. He will be sorely missed.

Having said that, I wish him and his family well. He deserves a huge contract that would help set him and his family up for many more years to come. And perhaps we might see him rejoin us in other capacity as our club continues its journey to be one of the great mainstay football team in the English Premier League.

Are we in Freefall ? - or will we be pleasantly surprised at the fallout of happenings ?
Not long to find out now !! - certainly an uncertain time right now.

Sam has been the heartbeat of our team and club ever since he arrived. Epitomises everything about the Running Towards Adversity mantra and what MA and KM have implemented since they arrived. There's no way we would have delivered the achievements of the past three years without him.
My heart wanted him to lead us back to the PL again as his final swansong for us, but I guess that would mean him needing to be replaced next summer instead.
Don't bet against him coming back in some role in the future - I for one hope he does. Thanks for all you have done for us over the last three years our Egyptian King!!

Morsy has been an Ipswich legend and i for one will feel very emotional come the day.

The Morsy bedspread and poster taken down but unlike all the others, not thrown away.

Who to worship now?
