Town teammates past and present have wished departing Blues forward Conor Chaplin all the best for the future.

The club announced this morning that the 29-year-old would be moving on when his contract is up this summer and have collated tributes from those who played alongside him during his five-year spell at Portman Road.

Amazing memories from 2022/3 and 2023/4 came back reading these words and seeing these pictures.

5-0 up at half time v Exeter and singing in the Churchmans / Sir Alf Upper concourse (yes you did here that right!!! we do sing sometimes) "Conor Chaplin Baby" & "Conor Chaplin's Magic & he wears a magic hat.... And now we've got promotion we'll sing this song all night!!"
Then the Pompey boy in Chappers inspiring him to run from the dugout to the corner of North & Cobbold stands to join in the celebrations for Sarmiento's late winner v Saints.

Fortunately I had a gap between reading these and the "Goodbye" message to camera on ITFC website (should have a health warning), otherwise I would have been a blubbering mess ! The best of players, the best of Club people, and one of the architects of the best of times....how blessed were we to be in attendance for so many great moments over the past few years. That final goal that essentially sealed promotion at Barnsley away will live with me forever.

Going to find a quiet, dark place now.....welling up again. THANKS CHAPPERS for EVERYTHING !

Blimey. Struggling to think of another player in recent times to have generated anything like that response - consistent too from fans to players to mgmt. Goes to show how exceptional he is.

Totally impossible for me to top anything said above. So I'll just say, very best of luck in the rest of your career CC. A very good player and an even better person.

We are so lucky as fans. Reading those tributes takes you back to all the memories of that special group of lads. The club we love was dying in front of our eyes before that and we were powerless to stop it. Then the miracle happened and look at us now - a thoroughbred horse on fast ground. Thank you Chappers. A class act, on and off the pitch.

Chaplin was an excellent player and a lovely lad. For me he was always that player who could get the team over the line when they were struggling in games. He has scored some memorable goals and his telepathy with other teammates on the pitch was a joy to see. All the best for the future. Hold on to those memories.

I think he had such a great time at Ipswich and everyone loved him wherever he goes now will be an anticlimax and like at Portsmouth will find it difficult to reach such heights.
