Lukic Signing Confirmed
Saturday, 8th Aug 2026 11:31

Town have confirmed the signing of Fulham midfielder Sasa Lukic, the Serbian international having penned a four-year deal.

The clubs agreed a straight £9 million fee with no add-ons towards the end of the week with the 29-year-old, the Blues’ eighth senior signing of the summer, completing a medical yesterday.

“I am proud to sign for this club,” Lukic said. “I know there is a great history here and some brilliant supporters so I can’t wait to get started.

“I have played at Portman Road before in the Premier League and the atmosphere was one of the best I have experienced. I can’t wait to play here as a home player.

“I am a box-to-box player who gives my all every time I am on the pitch and I’m excited to meet everyone and get started.”

Manager Gary O’Neil add: “Sasa is a player who brings real experience to the squad heading into the new season.

“Having played nearly 100 games in the Premier League, he knows what it takes to compete in the division and has been a consistent performer throughout his time at Fulham.

“We are delighted to have him with us and further strengthen an important area of the pitch.”

Lukic, who won’t be involved in today’s friendly against Rayo Vallecano with his visa expected to be granted on Monday, had been with the Cottagers since January 2023 and made 74 starts and 32 sub appearances for the West Londoners, scoring three times.

The midfielder, who had a year left on his contract but with Fulham having an option for a further season, started his career with Partizan Belgrade, spending time at Teleoptik on loan before, in 2016, joining Torino where, aside from a season on loan at Levante in Spain, he played for almost seven years.

Born in Sabac, Lukic has won 62 Serbia caps, scoring two goals, and played all their games at both the 2022 World Cup finals and Euro 2024.

Lukic, who will become the first ever Serbian to represent the Blues, adds to Town’s depleted central midfield options and is the second player recruited from Fulham this summer, defender Issa Diop having made the switch last month.

BlueinBerks - They have a new manager and maybe he wanted the security of a longer contract at 29?

Exactly what we need in the most important area of the pitch. To pick up a player with nearly 100 PL games for under £10m is excellent value. I think Lukic could turn out to be one of our most important signings of this window.

Central midfield area is looking so much stronger than it did a week ago but I have a feeling that Ashton & Court might have another one up their sleeves to bolster it even further.

We must be at around £100m spend now and if you look at what we have brought in, the recruitment team have done very well.

Things are looking better now especially in midfield, although we could still do with a creative midfielder. I'm not sure we've really had an effective one since Jim Magilton!

Right back seems to be the most urgent position now.

Really pleased with this one, 2 CMf were required and we've landed them in 5 days.

Massive uplift to our squad, let's keep the signings coming we know we have a decent shot at survival if we can!

Very happy with this signing. Alot more clout in the transfer market this time around. Helps when players see us coming back again after one season. That they might have a shot at staying up...also helps having a scouting team this time around that have European & wider world knowledge. Yeh some of these players were already UK based, but having the wisdom in the building on on the end of phone is starting to pay off

Great signing now also buy the guy fulham are going to replace him with. Sneaky tactic but will be younger and with a higher ceiling.

Another welcome addition to bolster the midfield.
My only concern at the moment, is a serious lack of goals in the present squad at this level.
Fingers crossed MA and co have got some real quality lined up,in positions 8/9 and 10,because without goals we're going nowhere.

Don’t know if anyone else has noticed this but Enciso liked this video of Lukic joining on Instagram. Don’t know if they have any prior relationship so it must be an Ipswich thing. Looks like Enciso is getting closer to Ipswich, not really any players like photos/videos from teams they are linked with until the deal is done but it looks like he’s coming Portman Road. Negotiations at the moment are between a loan or permanent deal being the reason it’s taking so long but it looks like it’s going to happen.

Another solid experienced signing from Fulham!

Seems like we’ve got all the defensive midfielders covered now, wonder if we’ll bring in another who’s more attacking minded/creative?

Either way midfield looks strong now, welcome to the club Sasa.

We are picking up mid table prem teams unwanted players…. Before you take that as a negative comment… it’s not, it’s just what newly promoted clubs have to do and hope they can get the best out of them. The reality is we didn’t beat mid table prem teams to Lukic because they are able to attract players who are wanted by other mid table teams. We will not be spending £150m every season as it’s unsustainable. The aim is to get to what most of those teams do. Spend £20-£30m more than we sell each season and some seasons if players have done really well sell way more than we spend. Lukic isn’t someone we are likely to make a profit on, but Fatuwa, Emersonn, Florentino Luis, and the two Dutch keepers will certainly have been signed with a future profit in mind. Ashton has talked about Player Trading since day one. Philogene if he goes will go for a profit and that will be something we had in mind when we signed him.

I’d just like to inject a little reality on here rather than the blue tinted sugar rush… I’ll save that for when we are winning prem games against bigger or more established prem teams and finishing 17th or higher.
