Perfect result last night? 07:18 - Aug 23 with 4226 views | Bluefish | I know i say every year we might as well get out of the cup but this year it applies more than ever. We are out with a decent performance and something different and a bit special for the fans. It was an exciting and credible performance and we can now concentrate again on winning the league. I thought I'd search Mick out itfc on Twitter and to my amazement I could only see 1 loon slating Mick for last night [Post edited 23 Aug 2017 7:19]

Perfect result last night? on 07:34 - Aug 23 with 3393 views | Bluetaff | I was just thinking that last nights result was absolutely perfect for us. Initially nervous that an overwhelmed team built from the youth squad would go down heavily against a PL side - didn't happen and in fact could have taken them to extra time, gave a fantastic account of themselves. Added bonus, we have some real gems in there that could force their way into the first team squad. Now we can hold our heads a little higher than normal and look forward to the next game without the added midweek games that would stretch a small squad too far - yes a cup run would be nice but I'm sure we are all in agreement the key objectives are a) finish in the top 6 b) finish above Nodge! The clamour for Mick to leave was borne out of the position we were (and still could be) in and in my opinion was completely justified. We would never be in the position we are in right now unless he and the club as a whole changed - which is exactly what some/most of the fans were demanding. The fact that we have some who seem keen to harp on with the 'I told you so' line without acknowledging the changes that have been brought in are often just as blinkered as those whining about the youth selection last night.

No but he definitely slips out of his Mick duvet in his Mick full pyjama set, puts on his Mick slippers and scurries downstairs each morning to eat Frosties out of his Mick cereal bowl! I'm happy with last night's performance. Great display from the youth and great that Downes and Celina combined for the goal which gives Mick a headache for Saturday. Almost the perfect performance last night. My Palace mate messaged me full of praise for the side's display last night - can't ask for any more than that.

Perfect result last night? on 09:30 - Aug 23 with 3150 views | usm | Agree to an extent - it was an "acceptable" defeat. BUT we wont win the league and this was a chance to keep confidence high and keep a winning run going. Can see both sides. I hate losing but I understand why MM changed the team so much and I guess we'll find out on saturday whether he was right or wrong.

Then it did well to obscure the fact that we lost, not even managing to take the lead or equalise, against a highly-weakened side.

Perfect result last night? on 11:25 - Aug 23 with 2924 views | clive_baker | A perfect result would've been to win and have a 3rd round tie where we could've put the same team out, but I see your point. We've bowed out of a competition that was only ever going to prove a distraction with our heads held high, given the next generation a taste of what they should be striving for every week and given some extra rest to a few of the senior pros. 1 more game before the international break to get through and it's important we go into that break still unbeaten in the league. 2 weeks is a long time for a few of the injured lads to get themselves fit and raring to go. A 15 point base to take into the break, with the confidence in the squad amongst the seniors and academy products both being sky high would be perfect.

a highly weakened side which included: 5 full internationals (Netherlands, Scotland, France, England, South Korea) 2 U21 players (Netherlands - one of which a Man U loanee) and the others who have played over 1000 top flight games between them. Our team had average age of 19.3, 4 debuts, 1 first start, and with the exception of Gerken no one had made more than a couple of appearances. Not quite sure your statement is a fair one.

Indeed. I would rather have the team and result of last night, than us fielding our first 11 and getting more injuries. The team on Saturday against Fulham aren't going to be affected by last nights defeat.

It's fully factual, if that's what you mean. Palace replaced most of their players from the previous game.

but 'weakened' suggests they have bought in a set of far inferior players, based on what i can see on the team sheet, theyre not far inferior players, theyre very good players, with a lot of premier league and international appearances..... when you consider one player Cabaye has played more times for France than 9 of our players combined have played first team games in the top two leagues..... if people consider that most of the time these players are loaned to teams outside of the top 4 divisions, the majority of these youth players would likely be considered at that level for the most part, so not really comparable i don't think
