Chances of Signing Connolly 18:51 - Dec 4 with 9428 viewsWestcountryblue

What do people think our chances are of signing the lad?

Looks a good prospect, albeit a similar (but more developed) kind of player to Downes.

He doesn't look ready for the Prem so it's not totally out of the question but I'd say it's unlikely.

I think we have a really good chance.

He's getting minutes here so may want to stay, Everton will be alright offloading him in the summer if an offer comes in you'd think, and he's already become popular with the fans.

If mick does indeed stay, Connolly will be playing for us next year.

Add to that they’ve got 2 young lads (Holgate and Kenny) ahead of him as well as Coleman and Martina so they’re well stocked at RB (where they play him).

He would be a good signing and continue his development as central midfielder where he's been very effective. Can't see Everton giving him first team experience

Think they see him as having a future at Everton, he's got two more years on his contract.

.....and in the unlikely event that they are prepared to sell him;
- he will be worth a few £m
- others will be interested
- will we be able to afford

If went up, clearly a different equation.....

Iorfa is a more realistic proposition;
- has a mistake in him / but may improve....
- an loan from a champ club
- likely to be surplus to their requirements if/when they go up
- could be sold for a knockdown price

No chance. Every goal he scores and every decent showing prices us out of the market. Not convinced Everton would sell anyway.

Concerning your comments on Connolly, did we not say similiar things about Huws , although I take your point. With our financial restrictions do we need to buy Connolly with Downes. Dozzell and Nydam looking good in the wings when perhaps money could be better focussed elsewhere in the team. As for Lorfa, we really do need to see some improvement before the end of the season to consider buying him.

Very good I would say.

Fat Sam's in charge at Everton now, he may not fancy Connolly for a start. If nothing else I could see him coming back for another season loan next year - assuming we are still in the Champ.

A lot of people thought we had no chance of getting Huws.

Some people (myself included) were convinced that Lawrence would be playing PL football this season, either with Leicester or another team.

As others have pointed out, perhaps it will be more a case of do we actually need him next season with the young players we already have?

if like Highes, he gets overlooked then maybe.

His wages will be above our ceiling. I would love to sign him but in reality we are in the same boat Rotherham are with Moore.

Nice thought.

Assumption is to make an ass out of you and me. Those who assume they know you, when they don't are just guessing. Those who assume and insist they know are daft and in denial. Those who assume, insist, and deny the truth are plain stupid. Those who assume, insist, deny the truth and tell YOU they know you (when they don't) have an IQ in the range of 35-49.

Whilst he did come as ostensibly a right back, the implied criticism of Mick in your comment really isn't fair. Connolly has been excellent alongside Skuse for several games now and he looks very comfortable in that position tbh. I generally respect what you say Grizzly but this one just is not fair.

It wasn’t really meant to be a dig, just we have had well publicised problems at RB, we have an England U20 RB playing DM and our own DM unused on the bench (Downes)

He has done very well and he might get a chance at RB when Adeyemi is fit i guess, as he would come in over Connolly in DM?

We’ll see in a few games I guess, but great to have flexibility in the squad

No chance of signing Connolly.

No chance of signing Celina.

No chance of Iorfa.

That's the reality. Connolly has a future at Everton, City (I've been told) turned down a multi million pound offer from FC Twente in pre season and Wolves rejected a £3m bid for Iorfa in the summer.

Need to enjoy them, certainly Celina, while we can.

Wasn't the multi-million pound offer for Celina from a club in Russia? Or that's what I thought I read anyway.

I think we'd have every chance with Connolly, IMHO. Bearing in mind Everton have Coleman at right back, Martina and now the emergence of Jonjoe Kenny, where does Connolly fit in? I highly doubt he'd go back to Everton and make an impact at centre mid either, given their current crop. However, I would be delighted to see him go back and do well there, and given he is an Everton lad, i'm sure he'd back himself to win a place. Let's just hope if he was to become available again next season (permanent or loan), he'd want to come back here.

... and break up the decent partnership in Skuse and Connolly? They're bringing the best out of each other. Lets get Adeyemi back fit first, then we can probably start talking about putting Connolly at RB.
