Jeremy Corbyn is the most smeared politician in history 16:52 - Jul 29 with 26006 viewsBrixtonBlue

People who say there is no smear campaign against Corbyn have either been taken in by it - or are part of it. Whether or not you like Corbyn/agree or disagree with his policies, surely this is not good for British politics/democracy?

With all the many many Corbyn posts on here, how many are actually about his policies?

The problem is folk don’t want to vote for him. I wouldn’t vote Tory, but frankly if I had to choose between them and a Corbyn led Labour I’d go Boris all day. That’s how bad Corbyn rates with many.

That's the point of the this thread though.

Please note: prior to hitting the post button, I've double checked for anything that could be construed as "Anti Semitic" and to the best of my knowledge it isn't. Anything deemed to be of a Xenophobic nature is therefore purely accidental or down to your own misconstruing.

if Corbyn took a stance of Brexit, it might have helped.

He's a useless article.

Actually, I think that's media perpetuated nonsense.

What's the point of taking a position on the most divisive issue in British politics in a lifetime? I mean, if he'd have backed the outcome of the vote for democratic reasons, he'd have cut the support of his party in half. If he'd supported remain he'd have also split his party in half and been labelled disingenuous.

He chose to sit back and watch the Tories collapse in front of him. What he didn't reckon on were the ridiculous attacks of racism and support for terrorism.

He's spent his life in politics, so I can't believe he didn't see that coming. It's just a shame he and his team didn't have a better plan to counter the inevitable character assassination.

I think Corbyn's biggest failure is that he's a bit woolly.

Anyway, I'm pretty sure most people now realise that PMs don't really have executive power to represent the people.

My opinion on it is there is a campaign against him.

That being said it’s not needed at all as even without the campaign, a majority of the population can see he’s simply unelectable and should be nowhere near the leadership of the opposition.

Yeah all the editors of major newspapers get together and put aside their differences to agree to smear Corbyn as part of a big campaign.

"Oh, you're the guy from the Guardian who led a campaign to have my newspaper shut down over phone hacking! Well, no hard feelings old boy, let's have a cup of coffee and discuss how we can team up over this Corbyn thing!"

"Good day old chap! I say, aren't you the fella who goes on TV and slates my newspaper at every given opportunity? Well, nice to see you. Let's strike a deal over this politics malarky."

"You definitely wouldn't turn me over here and declare to the world that your arch-rival paper is part of some conspiracy would you? That'd be terrible for our circulation and would only serve to make us look terrible while positioning you as the newspaper of great moral compass."

"NO! Of course not! Wouldn't dream of such a thing."

The BBC, The Guardian, Sly and the rest of the mainstream media are definitely seen in a different light today with people slowly waking from their slumber.

Why do you think it's a conspiracy? Our media is already predominantly to the right but even the centre-left of the Guardian is fairly opposed to socialism and didn't want Corbyn as leader. And even though the policies he presented are bog-standard social democratic in the rest of Europe.

No conspiracy. Everyone's just doing what they do, treating Corbyn as an opponent who must be defeated.

Completely unbalanced, of course. And also means that they are either creating the smears a la Mail and Express or turning a blind eye to them and just repeating them like the BBC and Guardian do. It's a low-water mark in our politics and media coverage that's seen a charlatan like Johnson get into power at the other end.

There certainly seems to have been a concerted effort by the right wing press to smear him.

Etc, there’s almost an endless supply.

So where are the smears in those stories?

Story 1.

All three have supported the IRA. Two of them have since admitted doing so and apologised. DA even compared here support of the IRA to changing her hairstyle. Corbyn has attended numerous conferences with convicted Islamic terrorists.

Story 2.

Is a continuation of that theme. It has been proven that the wreath Corbyn laid was at the graves of the masterminds of the Munich massacre. Corbyn quietly dropped his action against the Mail for this story.

Story 3.

Showed him as the useful idiot that he is. He spoke to and met a spy a couple of times at the height of the Cold War. Nothing too serious but showed a complete lack of judgement.

Story 4.

That’s back
Ed up by the same people who say that the U.K. leaving the EU will lead to a recession. I’ll leave it up to you as to whether their forecasts can be trusted.

Yes it’s the nasty press not because he leads a party full of ASs, not because of his views on the world and appears on the state television of Russia and Iran, not because he’s a long term believer in Marxism, not because he constantly finds himself standing in solidarity with many terrorist organisations it’s the nasty press....seriously this love in tonight is why the official opposition is so far from forming a government deluded.

i've read and awful lot by foot - which is very similar to spending time with him. i've followed corbyn's 'career' for 30 years - through all sorts of media and meetings. i thought corbyn was a git a very long time before he became leader. he is also undeniably humourless and thick.

err, it wasn't 'the independent's findings'. it was an opinion piece written by someone who isn't a journalist. it was written by an lse academic who seems extremely pro-corbyn. it wasn't an independent editorial, it wasn't by an independent journalist. it's quite important to understand your source you know.
