she was trying to say that nothing went wrong with the election while at the same time trying to distance herself from all the stuff people have told her was unpopular. so she couldn't give a straight answer to anything and tied herself in knots. I was trying to find an interview she did on newsnight in about 2016 - it was a notable car crash. trouble is when you put 'long-bailey car crash interview' into google there are so many I couldn't find it.

If RLB gets the job then I think there will be a genuine breakaway movement from the Labour Party. With a large Tory majority the Labour moderates aren’t going to be concerned with an imminent general election. You only need 102 to breakaway and they form the official opposition. for many labour mps now there is no prospect of a labour government in their political life times. so there wouldn't be much to lose. plus there would be the embarrassment factor of having to pretend to take her seriously as a leader.

How did the election effect the balance of MPs with regards to Corbyn loyalists?

I think you will find that all sitting Labour MPs got their seats by standing on the manifesto. So (a) it worked for them (IF you believe anybody anywhere pays any attention to a manifesto) And (b) They can't really complain about a platform they fought the election on - and won.

Of course RLB was only McDonnell’s proffered choice to carry the flame. Corbyn wanted Laura Pidcock which would have been a disaster. Thankfully she lost her seat.

People have been saying this for years and it doesnt happen. If RLB does get the job and if it's true she is more of the Maximum Leader then, considering all the current Labour MPs got their jobs on the basis of the Labour manifesto written by the Maximum Leader, it would be rich sauce indeed for them to do such a thing.

the aim of labour mps is to form a labour government. so they didn't win. it's when you have to explain to people how general elections work that you realise what a low level things have now reached. [Post edited 7 Jan 2020 13:15]

Keeping it low. If she gets the job the Labour party will probably split. How long would the moderates want to be out of power? It would be very hard to come back from all that far left loony politics. Let her win, sit back, and watch the show.

I haven't done the maths as it were. but the corbynites are now a bigger percentage - but not dramatically so.

As long as you lot push the lie that social democracy is the hard left then the whole country will be stuck in the last century. What the country needs most is an alternative to the ever rightwards direction of travel that has given us an awful government and awful initiatives like Brexit.
