That distinction is of course, something of an abuse of the language. But it has come to be a useful way of labelling the concepts. However- that equivocation is not what was at work here. When Madely can expose the flaws in what youa re saying, there is a problem! "Madeley asked her: “Do you think somebody that embraces transgender but nevertheless decides that there is a biological difference based on chromosomes based on a penis that may not have been removed after surgery, are you saying that person is transphobic?" Butler replied "If you’re saying that a trans woman isn’t a woman then there are issues around that."
| The presence of those seeking the truth is infinitely to be preferred to the presence of those who think they've found it.

Quite right, J2. Aside from Butler confusing the terms, there's nothing wrong with what she said. Odd to see our OP Labour bashing again. Who'd a thunk it.

The labour party has lost touch with reality on 19:04 - Feb 19 with 2821 views | tractordownsouth | I know this isn't directly related to what Butler said, but the idea that Labour is obsessed by transgender toilets and gender neutral bacon baps is quite an easy sell by right wing politicians and provocateurs (not that GMB has a political affiliation) to show that Labour is "out of touch" and "doesn't care about the real issues". I've never actually heard any Labour MPs talk about these things as a priority (besides giving people the right to self-identify) over things like low wages, healthcare etc. It's a bit like the "safe space" argument - it's a massively conflated issue. The labour party has lost touch with reality on 19:08 - Feb 19 with 2784 views | BlueBadger | This seems like basically harmless minor fruitloopery compared with Boris Johnson's appointment(and subsequent failure to condemn or sack) of an actual white supremacist to the role of advisor. How Dawn Butler raises here baby will have very little impact on anyone else's life, whereas an actual nazi with the ear of the PM could very well have done, had he not been forced out when people found out he was a nazi. I do like the attempt of equivalence between this and Tory policies that literally kill people, or exclude them based on where they were born or how much money they have. 3 out of 10 for effort I reckon. Not that Dawn Butler isn’t a daft head case of course.

It must but it won’t.....those who now pull the strings really believe this is what the vast majority of the population find important, fringe policies and decades old ideologies. Most people want a house, a job, an education, health care, social care and to be proud of their country and their flag. Sadly none of this is important to the current Labour Party leadership or membership. They care about LBGT to the point of hysteria, raising taxes and spending unwisely, Palestine but not the UK, vegans, XR but not how average Joe can drive his car to work and everything being labelled and boxed up ..... completely detached from reality. I don’t think whoever wins it will make a blind bit of difference until they change their direction of travel and actually understand what is really important to the masses.

Socialism and genuine social democracy aren't old ideologies. They're at the heart of progressive developed societies that are outperforming the UK socially and economically. Not replacing capitalism of course but providing a genuine balance. You need to lift up your head and take a look around. The world is moving on without us.

The rest of Northern Europe, Canada, New Zealand etc. Countries that have shared our "Western" political, social and economic development and not stopped there. I'd also say we're more fractured and more disenfranchised than whole swathes of the US. Because at least they have powerful state and local representation that provides a more progressive balance in many states. The UK is still a great place to be if you want to get rich but that's the strength and weakness of our society as that doesn't filter down to everyone as a social and economic driver. That's why when you look past GDP and look at the details we have huge problems with inequality and massive structural flaws that have led to impoverished regions and overall very low productivity. Open your eyes. There's no reason why we can't make life much better for UK citizens - and it's the unwillingness to even try because that would be Marxist or some other nonsense which is the biggest failure.

The labour party has lost touch with reality on 11:47 - Feb 20 with 2053 views | itfcjoe | Blair comments on this in that speech there when asked if he'd sign it.... Says 'No' emphatically, says it just drags Labour into a culture war with the Tories of focusing on Trans Rights where Tories talk about being strong on immigration which is a culture war they'll lose, and continue to lose Needs to go through proper process, proper consultation and that Labour need to support the right side on it at that point, not just sign pledges for show
