I'm in two minds about whether this is a bit OTT paranoia or sensible advice. My parents have about 6 holidays a year, both are over 65 (Dad is 83) and it doesn't seem to have stopped them doing anything.

When you get older you take life as it comes at this stage there is little point in locking yourself away.
We are due to fly out to Miami in three weeks time for a 7 day music cruise, acts include Hollies,Zombies, Peter Noone, Peter Asher and a host of American acts of a similar age.
The risk a flu breakout or norovirus outbreak is significantly higher that going down with Covid-19 but no higher than When we booked, while on last years cruise.
The only cause for anxiety I can see is a significant increase in Covid19 leading to either being stopped from travelling or not being allowed to board.
With the wife being quadriplegic she is doubly at risk but the odds are currently in our favour.
A cruise on the same boat two weeks ago 600 cruisers and staff went down with the flu. Sh1t happens. |  |

I guess I should've explained it more - I thought it was implicit that I was talking about fear not stopping them doing stuff... and with the 6 holidays a year I was saying that's what they generally do and have shown no signs of curtailing it.

Avoiding large gatherings is surely the thin end of the wedge. Next it will be avoid public transport and so on.
My mate is thinking of not coming on Saturday because her dad's going to go if she's going - and she doesn't want him to go because she's worried about the virus. My initial reaction was that's a bit paranoid. But i don't know enough about it so maybe it is actually sensible.

Especially as they don't really do much for non-infected people and if you're infected you should be in isolation anyway.
All those masks should be exclusively for the use of medical professionals who can change them frequently and bin them.
France has already made this policy - all masks go to doctors and nurses and not the public.

If they are deciding whether to go on holiday they should have all the information available to make their decision and that is a vital piece of that information.

I get what they are saying and why they are saying it but it all feels a bit ‘being seen to being doing something’ to me. My opinion is that people should go where they want, do what they want, whatever their age. If they are not well or indeed have a serious medical condition, more caution is required as it is at any time. It’s a health thing, not a number thing. My dad is 92 and perfectly fit and I see no reason to define him as especially vulnerable because he is over 65. Encouraging hand washing etc etc is sensible and a good habit anyway.
