The amount of money I've saved by not driving is quite staggering over the last 18:27 - May 3 with 4790 viewshomer_123

6 or so weeks.

Really quite surprised to be honest!

This has, however, been completely offset by the amount of money spent on washing powder...also....utterly unbelievable!

Just out of interest, why does how much Dolly spends on a PT bother you?

It doesn't.

As I said above, it was surprising to hear that a personal trainer cost so much,a nd I am at once intrigued and baffled by the idea that anyone who is not obsessive about looking a particular way, would ever spend so much per month that way.

As I say above, I think it says much about our society that the market supports such rates for that particular service.

Still not addressing it head on. To what extent are you paying 320 a month for the aesthetic element do you think?

The rest is full of bizarre tapdancing and I will ignore it.

Not really sure how I'm supposed to answer the first bit. What do you want, a percentage?! How much in pounds, shilling and pence?

You are odd.

Also, I answer points specifically, you call it tapdancing... and refuse to answer AT ALL. The irony is strong in this one!

Maybe it's the health, both physically and mentally that being fitter brings?

I know plenty of people who use personal trainers, very few of which are the ultra buff gym types, they tend to be people who just put in a lot of time and work to their diet. The PT lot are those who maybe want to use limited time well like business executives from my anecdotal experience

I was interested in your understanding of your own motivations. You seem reluctant to go there- which is your prerogative.

Cooking is one of my hobbies so I've replaced a lot of the money I would spend eating out on better quality ingredients via delivery, some rather nice wine and some Adnams deliveries. Might as well enjoy ones food and drink whilst stuck at home.

Who are you using for delivery, SB? Haven't checked any of the supermarkets for ages as I guessed they'd be backed up and I'm not exactly in need as others are. But wouldn't mind getting my hands on some proper meat.

It's been an eye-opener for me, just looking at my daily spending before and after just shows how much I used to spend on junk, food shopping has gone up understandably with two small children not at svhool/nursery, however we are saving £600 a month on nursery fees a few hundred on petrol.

Going forward it has highlighted how much unnecessary spending I did and it will be one positive thing coming out of this scenario.

These are local so they were delivering (not sure if they still are) but you can also call, order and pay and then zoom on a bike and collect through a different entrance to the normal shop:

That certainly is one of the possible factors. But I dont know. I was genuinely surprised to hear about the amount you were spending on it- and have no real idea of whether that is common or not in the scheme of things.

Accordingly, I asked a question to gain greater understanding of what motivates you (and presumably others) to spend what seems to me to be a very significant sum on such a service. You seem uncomfortable about being asked- but thats up to you.

I also asked what it was you claimed I hadnt answered....

I'm not reluctant at all, it seems impossible to quantify unless you give me a metric you want me to go on.

There's several things you haven't answered (you even admitted you're going to ignore some in your previous post) so I'm not going to bother going though everything and repeating myself. It's all there in my long post and the following one.

What specifically have I not answered (that was not rhetorical and warranted an answer)? You made the assertion. Back it up or drop it.

Haha, as if you were simply just asking a question because of your natural curiosity!

I'm not remotely uncomfortable being asked. What I objected to was your rudeness, your assumptions and your patronising, born of ignorance because all you have in your head about gyms and getting PT in particular, is a stereotype.

Full of assumptions and nonsense.

You clearly dont want to address it- and I am going to draw the natural conclusion; namely that my initial instinctive inclinations, were probably correct, at least in part.

You have been asked 3 times to specify your allegation- and have failed. I will assume the allegation of failing to answer is withdrawn but wont wait for the apology.

I'm with you.

It's an investment in yourself. Your motives are irrelevant, that's personal. The fact that you are willing to invest in yourself like that is a very cool thing.

The amount is down to postcodes. We've just slashed our gym costs by 2/3rds since we left Hampstead.

Go for it.

How did you wash your clothes before, open your doors in the car wash?

I rarely drive, but in regards to saving money, I've been astonished at how much I've saved since being in lockdown. £57pm gym membership, £320pm personal trainer, and my credit card bill has dropped from around £1kpm to £500pm (largely due to not eating/drinking out and trains to football).
