I think if all of those people are under 40 then the country would thank me for it. There isn't going to be a permanent vaccine for this, so the young people in this country need to get immunity.

You cannot lockdown for ever.

You cant lockdown forever. But its generally the under 40s who are the mor0ns and take no notice of anyone, thats when the virus will spike again. As that age group has no regard for anything let alone people.

Under 40s is half the population.....

My anecdotal experience amongst adults would say that those mostly flouting it seem to be the 18-25 lot and the over 65s

More ignorant nonsense.

We dont know if a permanent vaccine is gong to be available.

We DO know that there is a good likelihood that, if a permanent vaccine is not feasible, then such immunity as you would attain from being infected will not be permanent either.

As has been explained to you dozens of times, under 40s are quitecapable of spreading the virus to vulnerable people...

Given that black people are seemingly more vulnerable- would you say your plan should only be for white people under 40?

Only 200 people under 40 have died in this country from/with Covid-19. So I think BAME people are OK to get out there and continue their lives.

Science has so far never produced a permanent vaccine for rhino or corona viruses. Why, suddenly, are we going to get one by September?

And you are correct, we cannot be sure about immunity. But seeing as this doesn't kill many under 40's it's worth trying it. I and many others are happy to take that risk.

That would not be science based and ignores fundamental stuff we do know- but you know that.

Please stop spreading this ignorant disinformation. Its not funny- too many morons take it on and believe it, even small bits of it.

18-25 are under 40s arnt they? The over 65s seem to be really good around my way. They are sticking to lockdown pretty much.

People taking unnecessary risks are the reason we are in this mess.

People wanting to go back to pubs and clubs will be the reason that pubs and clubs go out of business. Through their own impatience and selfishness. I’ll have not one jot of sympathy.

The problem is twofold. The message is not clear enough and we lack sufficient Police Officers to enforce it.

There is a direct relationship between the firmness of the lockdown in a Country and the number of Police Officers. France and Spain, for example have 50% more Police per Capita than England and Wales. Sweden and Denmark have fewer.

We need a sensible approach but that requires everyone to realise the rules they are expected to follow are for the good of the community as a whole.

If we had a true lockdown (strict like Spain) do people think that we would be in a much better position now?

I do, this is the problem with he public, they are using the Governments label of a lockdown, but the UK has not been a lockdown.

People flouting the rules with no immediate consequences is why the disease continues to spread and we are way behind many other European countries.

It requires leadership.

And we don’t have that in any real sense.

Even if you are right, which I don’t think you are btw, the Govt can have a proper conversation with us about how we manage things going forward.

Always predicated on the fact as with South Korea and others we have the ability to reintroduce measure if the situation deteriorates.

Spot on...if and when the government produce the plan which indicates approximately when certain restrictions will be eased over the coming months, a significant number of people will still not be able to stick to the timings. If the govt says social gatherings of up to 6 people may be able to happen on 15th June depending on the virus status, you can bet a million people will start doing this on the 8th June because, well, a week won't matter. Will that be the governments fault? I'm sure some, if not many, on here will say it is as there does seem a reluctance of some to condone the rank stupidity of their fellow countrymen as it doesn't fit their anti government narrative.

Clubs will be the last to open, well behind pubs, some of which could open safely if managed carefully

Of course there will be people who behave irresponsibly.

From your final comment, your take on this is that we have good leadership from the government?

Its a meaningless message. It doesnt give a clear indication of what one is supposed to do.

And when it is juxtaposed with the old crass slogan, it simply gives people emotional permission to stop bothering. They need not stay home anymore- things are back to normal. Lets party.

I would be happy if the message was “Don’t be a Prat”

No need to change the slogan. Just tell us what you want us to do and trust that we are adult enough to carry it out. You will always get the idiots, but for the most, we can take clear instructions.

"Only 200 people under 40 have died in this country from/with Covid-19"

Yes, with the entire country in lockdown.

"Science has so far never produced a permanent vaccine for rhino or corona viruses. Why, suddenly, are we going to get one by September?"

We don't need a permanent vaccine right now, we need one for the current strains going around. That would be enough. Also trying to create a vaccine for a cold is probably not up their on the priority list given it's almost never fatal.

His whole take on this has been that he feels he will be safe and is happy for others to catch it; it doesn't affect him it's fine.

There are children in intensive care right now with this kawasaki type symptoms, except where that usually targets the very young, under 5s, this has killed people older too. An otherwise healthy 14 year old last week.

That's, as you say, with the so-called lock-down in place.

Opening schools would be a terrible idea until much more is known.

I just don't understand why there is a need to have a new slogan.

The current one is a bit blunt, but largely does the job
Changing it now just adds more confusion.
