...where I've been busy and returned to my desk to find abuse reports and name-calling on the forum. Not sure I need to remind those involved that it's not welcome. If it carries on I'll just ban those involved, regardless of whether they're long-time users or otherwise. Total waste of my time having to deal with it.

Coffee, carrot and ginger are just some of the things that should never venture into a cake.

We'll be having some nice homemade apple cake.

The next cake Mrs Factual has made is banana bread.

I'm lobbying for the one after that to be another fruit cake.

I love fruit cake.

That was definitely a provocative post by WD19.

It's cheesecake I don't understand.

It's not like it's proper cheese and either way it doesn't belong in cake.

Cake = good. Cheese = good.

Cheesecake = bad idea.

A Strawberry and Cream Cheesecake is quite possibly the finest of all desserts. Not a cake.

I don't hate a little marzipan and like the almond aspect.

The one thing I have never understood is icing.

Who the hell in their right mind wants to go to the trouble of making a cake and then cover it in that bloody stuff?

Absolutely.

That's why I've never understood the expression "that was the icing on the cake" ... it should mean something that was nearly very good was ruined at the very last moment.

True inasmuch as it's not really cake - you've got me there.

But a fine dessert?

You seem a nice guy so please, stop with this line of nonsense.

Sweet, sickly, with a base that isn't even homemade, it's generally just crushed up things that someone else has already made...

Ha.

It is a dessert, you're right there too. But there's nothing nice about it.

I've never liked cheesecake and my heart has sunk at so many dinners when some smug host has produced that as an offering.

Will no one consider that we're not all heathens?

As posted elsewhere, it has to be orange gateau for me.

Although I'm one of those who tends to say I don't really like desserts but if you put one in front of me I'm likely to appear a liar. In possibly under 30 seconds flat.

And you're not supposed to say sorry, you're supposed to argue.

It's a cake, just as a Lincolnshire fruit loaf is a cake. If it isn't something you could spread Marmite on, it's a cake.

I really should pay more attention. I read that, but didn't realise it was from you. I am not a huge fan of orange flavoured stuff. If it is your favourite, then it is your favourite. I will stick with the cheesecake, sorry. Sorry, I didn't mean to say sorry. Sorry, I didn't mean to say sorry again. Oh bl00dy hell, I can't stop saying sorry. Sorry, I just said it again. I give up.

The worst? The Battenburg. Terrible cake.

I respect you greatly footers, but I'm afraid to say dissing the Batt does diminish that respect somewhat...
