Well yes, but it hinges on that doesn't it and then him coming in and being a good influence and capable after his injury amongst other factors.

We need to be finding the next Adam Webster or Luke Chambers ideally, Keogh delivers neither. Even if he was coming in to fill a Mogga style gap he's not that type of CB is he? I think the desperation for promotion is clouding judgements amongst the fanbase.

The squad is massively lopsided and we need a carefully planned recruitment strategy, if Keogh is part of that then it's right to question it given Lambert's previous.

My judgement isn't clouded whatsoever.

Is he an improvement on James Wilson (and even Chambers)? Yes.
Does he has something to prove? Yes.
Has he got a couple of years in the tank? Hopefully.

Fitness/injuries should be the only determining factor IMO. Would be surprised if he doesn't have a Championship suitor or two anyhow.

Especially with Toto to Dundee Utd

I wonder how much we're offering Dundee United to take him?

Although technically I would say he made two errors of judgement, 1) the incident & 2) refusing to take a pay cut because he was injured during 1) and if I remember correctly Derby sacked him for # 2) refusing to take the pay cut.

Well if he is going to join Town he had better get his mind ready for a very large pay cut

I think that Keogh probably had a point with his refusal to take a wage cut.

Lawrence and the other kid were (as I understand it) handed the usual fine of x-weeks wages, made to do some community work, and that was it.

Keogh, on the other hand, was hauled over the coals and essentially forced out of the club.

It's almost as if the young talent was given as easy a ride as possible, whilst the club took the convenient opportunity to dispose of the senior pro in the twilight of his career...

Ignoring all of the other off field stuff and whether that should be part of your judgement or not, what have you seen of him since his injury to confirm that?

We are completely guessing here, the only mitigation he has really is that the younger more valuable assets were treated differently.

I'm also talking about Chambers when he signed, as we either need to be looking at players we make a profit on or players who offer long and impressive service. We have too many players as is, one year stopgaps don't really chime well with where we are at do they?

As I understand the story, it was Lawrence and Bennett were the ones who were especially in the wrong opting to get behind the wheel of their vehicles intoxicated.

Keogh was obviously ridiculous for either encouraging them/allowing them to drive and for even risking a journey with them. However, it always felt to me like the club made it appear that Keogh was more in the wrong than the other two consenting adults that made the decision to control killing machines when off their rockers.

To confirm what? I said you'd "hope" he could play another two seasons. That would have to be proven with a trial and sufficient fitness test. I don't really know what more you want me to say?

He'd be an improvement on almost every centre half we have.

Let Toto & Wilson go, bring in Keogh and Smith. Job done.

There's a balance to be found though. Nine months ago, Keogh was skippering a club with aspirations of playing in the Prem. If fit, he could still play Championship football. Him alongside Woolfie (a guy well "on his way up") would be very astute.

You also said he was better than what we had with no way of knowing that right now. (Has he kicked a ball since the accident incidentally I'm assuming he didn't play non-league or anything since being sacked?)

The case for him seems to get flimsier by the minute.

Deary me. How clearer do I need to make it?

On paper, Richard Keogh has a footballing pedigree that far exceeds the likes of James Wilson, Toto Nsiala and quite possibly even Luke Chambers.

Providing he proved his fitness and ability on the training field, he would be a no-brainer, thereby making his own case for signing.

Let's leave this one here as it's getting silly now.

You'd probably be looking at Keogh playing in a 3 with both of them. Woolfie left side, Chambo right side and Keogh sweeping in the middle.

A 1000000% upgrade on James Wilson, surely no-one could deny that.

That back three looks horrific. Only Woolf with any real mobility. I hope we move away from that system anyway to be honest, it hasn't worked for us and doesn't suit us. I'm hoping we go back to a back 4 and I wouldn't be signing Keogh as we don't need another 30 plus CB in the squad. We need someone who will be a replacement for Chambers.

He'd be an expensive signing in terms of wages, it's not as simple as him being an upgrade on Wilson when Wilson is relatively cheap squad filler.

Let me help you here. We are talking about as the ball playing centre back in a 3, Keogh is a stopper he had been working hard to be a marauding cb for derby but he was terrible at it, skuse is miles ahead in that area. Keogh is also on his way back from a career ending injury and a significant mental battle over his career. Skuse isn't, I would pick Skuse ahead of him every day as a 3rd cb

Where did I suggest that Keogh would be a "marauding CB"? Far from it. I said he'd act as sweeper and allow Woolfie and Chambers to be the ones to attack the ball.

Cole Skuse as a third CB really is a last resort suggestion...

It really isn't, he has all of the attributes of a fine cb as I have been saying for years and we finally got to see last season. Plenty of midfielders have moved back to cb, we had a player called John Wark that did it rather well. A couple of famous names are Kompany and Southgate from elsewhere. Skuse is a far more talented player than Keogh

Indeed. We already have one ageing, formerly good Championship centre back at the club so why would we want another, especially as he may not be match fit until December, if ever?

Like Nolan and Nsiala?

There's got to be a balance. For me we seriously lack experience and leadership. We need someone to come in with the aspiration of replacing Chambers, and so I don't think Keogh is really the right choice, especially considering his injury, but it's not the worst shout in the world.
