It’s just all a bit tribal, football support type politics. You’re not interested in talking about the bill at all, you just want to get angry and call people names.

and there the thread dissolves into a sludge where an angry Badger and Koont thrash around throwing bricks at anyone who dare vote Tory or even question their sacred views.

Hey, you two, pipe down so we can at least discuss it.

Assumption is to make an ass out of you and me. Those who assume they know you, when they don't are just guessing. Those who assume and insist they know are daft and in denial. Those who assume, insist, and deny the truth are plain stupid. Those who assume, insist, deny the truth and tell YOU they know you (when they don't) have an IQ in the range of 35-49.

doesn't the requirement for regular fire safety risk assessments during the life of the building, policed by the fire authority, deal with amendments made by tenants etc? surely that would be picked up int he risk assessment and that is a statutory duty for the building operator?

It does, as long as those changes are made with proper building regulation and not just ad hoc - i.e. changing doors in the house/flat.

But also, even with building regs, theya re assessed by the council or another building control operatot - but then the FRA comes and more changes are made.

We just refurbed a pub with hotel rooms, plans had been assessed, then further changes made by building regs officer, then an FRA check and further changes then made on top of that - 90% of the time there won't be a further FRA check and it will only get picked up in annual check, which may e too late

has it been said that changes were made and NOT picked-up or said changes were not authorised?

They never really do seem to discuss the topics. When anything comes up that is clearly wrong from the Tories, their response is “Hmm interesting, I will have to look into it into more detail before giving my opinion”. They then proceed to never actually look into it or give an opinion, instead they prefer to try and derail the discussion and move completely off topic.

Textbook Tory.

The Tories have a majority of 80. The bill passed by a majority of 130. Other parties must have also voted against it?

What did you think of Sir David Amess contribution?

“ I am a loyal Conservative through and through, but there comes a point when that loyalty begins to wane a bit. I say to my hon. Friends on the Government Benches that the Government are in choppy waters at the moment. I do not want to tip the boat over, but I am beginning to tire of the responses we have been getting from the Front Bench, and I will come to that in a moment.”
.....

“ However, I do accept that when my right hon. Friend comes to reply, he will draw out of his folder a bit of paper telling him to resist the amendments, and to do so because they are “not in order”, or because “It’s the wrong Department” or “It’s the wrong time.” It is never the right time, however, and I say to my right hon. Friend that we owe it to the people who died in Grenfell, and their relatives and friends, to act as quickly as possible. And I say to those on the Treasury Bench that there is more than enough time to legislate; my goodness, we packed up on Thursday at 1.35 pm. I could have filled the Chamber’s time with endless issues. I say to my right hon. Friend that we should find time in the legislative programme for this.”

I've just read through that and I don't actually see how it relates to them moving away from the owner and / or manager being responsible for things like ensuring lifts are up to scratch etc.

Perhaps I've misread.

Thanks. That wasn't what I was responding to on this thread but I've read it.

As a non-Fire Safety regulation expert I don't know if this is performative bobbins from one or both sides. However, I do know that the Grenfell Inquiry report came out almost a year ago. Yet this is a government apparently "moving at pace" and they haven't yet delivered on their promise to implement the full enquiry recommendations.

Let's see what happens in October.

I’ve said it looks a strange one on the surface. I don’t know the intricacies if the bill not am I an expert on fire safety, if it’s as it appears then, yes, it does look like it should have been supported. I don’t have the time today to read up on the details. The gentleman who was dropping said c bombs probably doesn’t either but he just like shouting and getting angry about ‘The Tories’. I’m not going to engage with that.

They don’t. In your echo chamber, maybe. In the population at large they have consistently been the most popular political party over the past 40 years. 3 election defeats in 41 years shows that.

Oh no doubt there's a lot of morons that vote for them, but they constitute a minority of the population as a whole and those that don't vote for them tend to detest them. So I'll ask again, do you ever stop to wonder why it is that so many people detest the Tories?
