To be fair to them, they have looked at the area, obviously sports science is Lee O'Neill's area, and have added staff and improved facilities over the last couple of years, a lot of the work which went on at the training ground when PL came in was related to this.

Certainly think they're in a better place than they were a few years back and I think there is more concern with regard to players' loads and things like that than there was under Mick, for example, as the rotation last year illustrated. I don't think it's any coincidence that Sheffield United not starting David McGoldrick in pretty much every game when he is fit has meant he has stayed fitter for longer periods.

To the best of your knowledge, are the stories about

1. The youngster with the undiagnosed (until he left us) broken foot, and
2. Uni undergrads working within our sports science team

true Phil?

1 Not heard that before and I know the story in The Independent regarding the former academy player with the back problem was rather more complicated than it was reported. Town were furious at the way it was reported - if I remember rightly the inquiry exonerated them while making critical comments about aspects of the situation, something along those lines - but were unable to give their version of events due to child protection issues. The original story was given to a number of newspapers but only one of them ran it.

2 There are interns from universities doing placements in fitness and conditioning roles, which I don't think is unusual. But there are permanent members of staff in the positions of responsibility, obviously.

Why focus on the negative (Didz)? I can't explain that, has he really not had injuries since he left? I haven't followed him that closely at Sheff Utd, he doesn't seem to score much, so assumed maybe he wasn't playing.

My point is, fans, especially ITFC fans, seem to only seen the negative angle. Sure its frustrating we have a lot of injuries, but so does everyone, especially at the moment.

Not at the rate we've had over the last few years.

I bet Bloots will downarrow this.

Ah okay, that quote was taken directly from EADT so blame them! Still, the club should see if he is overworking and take action.

EADT telling porkies again?

What do you think of the comments from Lee Johnson about Adam Webster?

“We liked him for a long time – he’d had a bit of an indifferent year in terms of injuries and we’d heard it maybe wasn’t the best (at Ipswich) then in terms of sports science,” Johnson tells The Athletic.

“We felt to go with his ability he had some physical gains and, with a fresh pre-season, we really thought he was worth the purchase.

Webster's issues really went back from before he was here, if I remember rightly, he had an ankle reconstruction when at Portsmouth, which he still struggled with while here. Whether the number of games he played after coming back from his spells out while here had an impact on his continued lack of fitness is up for speculation. I assume he's been treated with kid gloves at Bristol City and then Brighton.

Ah, right, those are important clarifications in light of some previous comments on the thread - many thanks.

"Everyone knows our sports science team is inept"....

Seriously, please explain..... how do you have such insight?!

I've been inside the training ground, looked impressive to me, but what do I know. So please, tell me. What is so bad with the set up/staff, compared to other clubs at our level?

Do you understand the question now?

The academy player I'm talking about is a different one than that mentioned in the Independent, there are other stories I won't go into as history now but outside the 1st team there is/was a lot of trying to manage and work out what issues were opposed to sending them for a scan to get it sorted more quickly and more expensively

It does make me laugh when supporters start pointing fingers at the club for injuries during matches. What exactly do you think other clubs have connected to their players thighs during a game?

It's not so much that that' the problem, it's the treatment, recovery and rehab that's an issue - how many times have the likes of Bishop, Huws and McGoldrick broke down after 'recovering' from serious injury.

McGoldrick is particularly telling, given he's apparently been injury free for over a year now.

I'm one of the people who was blamed for getting Paul Cook sacked. PM for the full post.

And so many more besides - Bishop, Dozzell, Lankester, Dylan Crowe and Kyle Hammond are all young players who've been out for an entire year within recent memory, and KVY's getting on for that, Fraser was out for long stretches whilst he was here, Jonny Williams...well that one's a special case I suppose. I remember a good source on here indicating Mings didn't speak highly of our medical team either...
