New Covid restrictions in place for 6 months on 13:47 - Sep 22 by LankHenners

Basically the people at the top of the table need to decide whether to look after the pyramid or themselves. Unfortunately can predict which one they'll go for.

The other sport-related bit of interest in there was extending the 'rule of six' to all indoor team sports. Seems a bit pointless in one sense as most team sports require more than 6 people so they're essentially being told they can't go ahead, which will have an effect on sports/leisure centres. Already seen heads/representatives of various sporting bodies scrambling to work out if their sport applies and if there's a way to continue without infringing the rule.

Interestingly I found out the other day that the sports centre near me was already not allowing team sports inside unless the sport was organised under an official body, e.g. the local football team. Wonder if others will have a similar plan (if allowed) so they actually have some paying customers.

The PL have already issued a statement saying they want fans back in their grounds even though the new restrictions say no.

Whining their clubs are losing £700m, but at the same time spending £30m in wages on one player (Bale) and watching Chelsea spend £200m+.

The premier league clubs could easily prop the rest up instead of spending 220m on players like Chelsea have.

Instead we have the likes of Crystal Palace doing exactly the opposite and trying to prey on the situation with lowball bids for players in lower divisions who don't have the consistent income the PL still enjoys.

Agreed. But the PL will never help out the EFL.

He did indeed, another example of the press twisting words

He strengthened it later to say 6 months unless anything changes in the underlying data.

It was his usual waffle, so no wonder it is confusing.

How many of those from socially distanced fans at a much reduced capacity stadium I wonder? Next to none I would wager.

Depends doesn't it? How many traveled there alone and went straight to their seat? How many took public transport? How many took the opportunity to meet up with mates?

Going to one event where you're socially distanced still creates multiple potential vectors.

Got some evidence to support that assertion?

What about the travel to the match? Was distancing actually followed in the toilets? Lets see your facts and figures rather than a woolly statement.

People are aware that football is less important than people dying right?

France, Italy & Germany have all managed to get fans into grounds. Pretty sure I saw it in Scotland too. Fans won’t be kept out for that long, it’s a complete lack of common sense bearing in mind all of the far riskier activities that we are allowed to do. We’ll be back by January, maybe sooner if, god forbid, something terrible were to happen to Downing Street. I’m sure we all have our fingers crossed.

France has for sure.

All the fans at a recent Ligue 1 match I watched on telly were wearing masks.
There wasn’t much social distancing though, with fans sitting beside one another.

No idea if the capacity was reduced or not.

About time too.

Maybe now, some of these dead weight clubs in the Premier League and Championship will disappear and we can reclaim our place in the elite by default.

Is that particularly unusual though?

The military have been used in many countries including similar countries such as France, Spain and Italy.

Obviously not what we want to see but I am surprised their manpower hasn't been used in some form to assist the testing efforts.

"I am surprised their manpower hasn't been used in some form to assist the testing efforts"

It has, in lots of areas. I know a fair few servicemen and women who gave logistical and testing support in the first wave.

I’d like to think they will. We’ve been through lock down 1 by and large most people got on with it and knuckled down, this is not as severe and should be viewed as being a lot easier, most people are sensible and can see a good chance of restrictions easing if we show we can be trusted unfortunately there will always be a minority who will spoil it for the majority. I look at it this way, the NHS is asking us to do our bit again, and that I have no problem with, it’s a civic duty if you like.

I don't see it, it still isn't clear enough like the lockdown was

Personally I'd rather things be stricter and have more clarity - there needs to be a more idiot proof guide to it
