Why the woke movement and cancel culture is so dangerous. 19:59 - Sep 23 with 24801 viewshampstead_blue

This poor chap lost everything because of woke nutcases.

He raised genuine concerns about BLM and the woke and cancel culture community swarmed all over him.

Support BLM? Dare anyone criticize the hard left and woke nutters

https://thecritic.co.uk/i-was-fired-for-criticising-blm/

https://www.change.org/p/the-board-of-mancunian-way-petition-to-remove-nick-buck

Assumption is to make an ass out of you and me. Those who assume they know you, when they don't are just guessing. Those who assume and insist they know are daft and in denial. Those who assume, insist, and deny the truth are plain stupid. Those who assume, insist, deny the truth and tell YOU they know you (when they don't) have an IQ in the range of 35-49.

Why the woke movement and cancel culture is so dangerous. on 09:39 - Sep 24 by CrayonKing

Indeed. This thread could equally be titled "Why falling for far-right propaganda is so so dangerous"

Yes - the article basically says:

'I spent loads of time googling about Black Lives Matter, I found out loads of dreadful stuff about them which no-one else knew, then I knew that it would be a great idea to share all my research with people on LinkedIn, the Trustees of my charity read it and decided that I was no longer a fit and proper person to lead the charity.'

It clearly shows how damaging right-wing conspiracies can be and how they are becoming much more sophisticated in radicalising people to make terrible judgements.

Do you think that the statements were untrue?

The statements he brought to light were real and very worrying. They have been changed which in itself shows how much damage such hard left views have had.
Also the charity's trustees changing the decision was again proof of how dangerous this loose group of nutter's are. They claim to be woke btw.

I'm not sure he's gullible. I'd say he made a decent point.

In summary, BLM have taken down the hard left, marxist statements and the charity this chap founded have given him his role back.
It does show the woke and cancel culture trolls to be utterly pathetic. Hands-up in this thread who supported them?

Really people. The next thing on their radar will be segregation at football grounds......"Supporting one team is hatred toward others"......

Why are you asking people questions.

Are you expecting a response.

Because, you never respond to debate and questions.

Pure arrogance.

I really hope you're on a wind up. You are just a Buzzfeed bot now.

You fail to engage with people, you fail to answer questions, you fail to admit when you are wrong, you fail to open your mind, you are quick to dismiss any positive cultural shifts and even quicker to praise any backwards approach to progress. You have dangerously extremist views and are clearly very impressionable. The Charity's trustees didn't change their decision, a high profile lawyer was hired (paid for by various right-wing groups) to claim that the trustees hadn't followed due process, and the trustees were threatened with personal legal action unless they resigned, which they then did. His solicitors then got three of his friends appointed as trustees under the condition that they re-appoint him.

That course of events does absolutely nothing at all to validate his beliefs or actions.

This case is a mess, and a dreadful example of what happens when people get too involved in things they've read on the internet.

To me, it just sounds like you've been a little bit radicalised too by this kind of online stuff. I'm not trying to be horrible or mean, and I really don't like the way other people are responding to you in this thread.

In my opinion, you really have to think hard to yourself - why me? Why am I able to see these truths, but no-one else?

At first "woke" was essentially a re-brand of "PC gone mad." It was a bit of silly word, but at least it had a clear meaning. Now "woke" is just a catch all term for anything that even vaguely supports BAME or LGBT people, and its' a subsitute for people actually articulating their opposition to something. The irony is that it's used non-stop by the same people who think that calling someone racist has lost its' meaning because the word is over-used.

It's the epitome of right-wing victim culture. They've been in power 10 years, they've got their Brexit, they've got Johnson and they've got Trump, so they have to set up bogeymen to blame and distract from their own failings.

Don't fall into the trap.

Some of us are just utterly exasperated with him. It's the same nonsense over multiple threads and any reasonable response falls on deaf ears. He has indeed been radicalised but a feature of being radicalised is the inability to see it.

There is a small swarm of posters who create and paint pictures through persistent and poor assumptions.

This group jump on anything which is centre right and throw abuse such as 'radicalised' and 'hard right racist' when someone dare disagree with them or post anything which shines a light on there crown jewels.

I'm happy to stick my head-up, have a different opinion and share it. After all free speech is something the woke movement and left want to stop.

Calling me a radicalised person is vile. My views are far from extremist. I'd argue that the likes of Herbivore, a marxist btw who wants to dismantle the establishment, end free speech, crush capitalism, and more abusive things by the truckload, are the true extremists.

I'm happy on the left of the Tory party.

My prowse isn't world class I prefer numbers tbh. Maybe it is easy to read another view but the reality, and you do have to ignore the likes of Herbivore, I'm a very normal person.

This chap is an example, not a perfect one, but a good example of how a group of left wing woke trolls can damage lives. If you read 'The Madness of Crowds' by Douglas Murray there are many more and very sad examples of how this culture has ruined genuine and hard working people.

Please accept my apologies for not being the best writer but I do not apologise for standing tall. The likes of the vile marxists among the group ought to seriously consider the genocide and deprivation they want to inflict before throwing stones at myself.

I want to end free speech? That's quite a leap. You should actually do some reading up around Marxism, from people who have actually read Marx, as it's patently obvious you know nothing of his political philosophy.

Edit - I'd missed the bit about supporting genocide. That's deeply offensive. You really need to consider taking some time out and reflecting on why you've got things so twisted in your head. Only one of us has spoken on here about fantasising about doing harm to their political opponents and only one of us on here condoned a journalist getting beaten up because they were at the opposite end of the political spectrum from them. That person was you, mate.

Just stop and think for a moment - you're writing here that when people disagree with you, you know that must mean they are genocidal.

You really need to stop and think about where and how you're getting the information that's leading you to these kinds of conclusions.

If you genuinely think Herbivore is a marxist, that says more about your own position on the political spectrum than it does about his

I consider myself a Marxist, that said I am pessimistic about the likelihood of the UK ever becoming a genuinely Marxist society and I would only support peaceful and democratic revolution as opposed to actual armed struggle on the streets.

It's all pretty meaningless really, we're stuck with capitalism despite its ills so I mainly actively support causes that seek to amend and temper capitalism's destructive tendencies as they are probably more realistic to achieve than redistributing ownership of the means of production to the workers.

The only person on this thread, that I recall, that has tried to suppress free speech, e.g. “pipe down”, “play nice” etc is Hampstead.

So currently, the evidence from TWTD postings, is that Hampstead has a desire to curtail free speech.

Hmmmm on second thoughts I can't be arsed going through pretty much every sentence here, because as others have said dear Hampers, there is little point. You don't engage when your generalisations, straw men and inaccuracies are questioned i.e. specific things you write almost as throwaway comments. It's nothing to do with how right or left wing or whatever, posters may be.

Gorders made a quite salient comment about bias earlier in this thread. Radicalisation is possibly not the best word in this context as it's incendiary and won't progress the discussion. However they have a point and it's something we should all think about when examining our own reactions and views on societal matters.

He shone a light on a pretty nasty part of a movement.
I tip my hat to him.

Some have criticized his prose which I feel is wrong. Not everyone writes in world class prowse.

Calling him racist, or a closet racist is again missing the point and tacitly supporting the online woke and cancel trolls. He's done a good thing and should be thanked.

BLM have been dropped by lots of organisations. Less pins seen on the TV. Why? Because the message has been ruined by thugs and the hard left.

It was you who said that their objective of dismantling the establishment and crushing capitalism was a good thing and an obvious bedfellow for the message of ending racism.
Very sad indeed.

At this point I think it's clear to see that you're lost to reason and to this forum. You've gone down a sad and lonely path my friend, I hope you find your way back. I liked it better when you were PMing me about which George Monbiot book you should read, rather than posting this sad stuff.

If you genuinely think Herbivore is a marxist, that says more about your own position on the political spectrum than it does about his

and Yes, Marxism and socialism are responsible for cruelty writ on an epic scale. Please tell me I am wrong!

Herbivore also said that BLM is right to be populated by his ilk as it is only through crushing capitalism and the dismantling of the establishment will society ever be free.

Sorry, but you've got the wrong person. I believe in freedom and he and the left believe in enslaving us all in a cruel and destructive dogmer.

I think this is something that we're going to have to think about a lot more in society generally, as its inevitable that online misinformation will be increasingly used to polarise and stoke hatred between different groups to promote various vested interests. Even the government is basically relying on 'culture war' type polarisation now to keep them in power; that's pretty much all they are even pretending to offer.

Given that, trying to talk to people and have empathy and sympathy for those people who have been wholly taken in by it all is really hard, but really important. No idea what the best way to address this kind of thing is, but would guess that confrontation simply reinforces the messages underpinning the extremism.
