The NHS is not the saviour it's made out to be. It's a money pit.
If you wanted to create a health system you wouldn't draw the NHS. It would look so different.
It's kept going by politicians because they have to. Not because it's the best thing ever.

I do believe we are privileged and fortunate to have the NHS. Even through chronic mismanagement it is a superb machine.

Quite a lot of the wastage has come through outsourcing and backdoor privatisation. £12bn on test and trace and Serco are using a 20 year old version of MS Excel. You couldn't make it up. Where local authorities and health authorities have instigated their own track and trace at virtually no cost it has worked far more effectively. |  |

It's pretty balanced tbh.
Your example is very one dimensional and ignores the electorate which is why I did recoil somewhat.
It does give examples but these are simplistic in the sense that it avoids the fallout from the electorate.
My take on the report is that the big three are hard to raise as it broadening the base (new taxes).
There is no easy solution but I do think that there must be a way of simplifying tax. I'm currently working my way through "Daylight Robbery, how tax shaped our past and will change our future" by Dominic Frisby.
Really interesting historical section. Just about to get into 'now and the future'.
I'd recommend it.

I think it might have been the bit where you called the NHS a money pit and said if you were designing a health service it would look nothing like the NHS and that politicians only support it because they have to. If you intended that as a pro-NHS message you're going to have to flesh your reasoning out a bit. |
If he was designing a health care system it would look exactly like the US with the one exception being it was free for anyone who is/was serving in the armed forced and their families. |  |
