We have a current government that has done more to undermine democracy than any in our lifetime and is the furthest right since Thatcher (arguably further back than that), we're seeing the country being torn apart after a decade of Tory rule, and yet Hampstead isn't worried about any of that, he's deathly terrified of 'the left'. That's the same left that hasn't been in power for decades (New Labour doesn't count), that controls very little of the media, and that largely supports causes that promote equality (anti-racism) and the future betterment of the planet (climate change). This is the bogeyman he is terrified of.
On the other hand he enthusiastically voted for and supports the current Tory government. This bunch in charge illegally prorogued Parliament (subverting democracy), ran the Vote Leave campaign that broke electoral law (subverting democracy), turned a blind eye to Russian influence in our elections (subverting our democracy), and then refused to release the inquiry into Russian interference ahead of the GE whilst continuing to accept Russian money (subverting our democracy). On a personal level, Boris Johnson is pally with the son of a former KGB agent, secretly partying with him and then making him a Lord.
All the while we're seeing rises in hate crime, white supremacists taking to the streets because they are upset about Black people wanting not to be discriminated against, those same individuals fighting police and pissing on memorials. We're seeing similar in the US but on a much larger scale. We've got a government banning anti-capitalist material from the curriculum, which is clearly an affront to free speech. We've got far right racists being given key roles with the BBC and Ofcom, a direct threat to press freedom and impartiality. But yeah, it's definitely 'the left' that's a major problem and a risk to our democracy. |  |

Now you see in my book that makes Patel, Rees-Mogg, Cummings and a host of other dog-whistlers and the people who continue to defend their actions more of a threat to national security than any of the residual members of the CPB. Now that is not to say that such threats to "our way of life" (which phrase, incidentally, in the mouths of certain sections of our society and in particular politicians and, even more focused, politicians of the right, I have always taken to mean "MY way of life") are the exclusive proviso of "the right" (and yes I am aware of the irony of my using such a phrase in the context of this discussion). But the government we have today is very much of the right.
Chancer Johnson is one who has clearly not seen, or chosen to ignore, or exploited for his own ends, the gradual movement to the right that the Tory party has undergone over a number of years. Despite, apparently, trying to protect his party from the likes of UKIP and despite his protestations to the contrary, Cameron had a major hand in this process. He had Conservative MEPs whipped to vote against sanctions for Orban, he set up the European Conservatives and Reformist group (take a look at some of the members of that) and he asked a question without understanding what the answer was likely to be and has contributed heavily therefore to dividing the country and allowing the level of political engagement and discussion to swim in the gutter.

Mr Allason appears to believe that all he needs to do is assert in firm terms that a state of affairs existed and his audience would have to accept his word for it." Whilst I have done fairly limited research I can find nothing about 5 Labour MPs being named (and thus "outed") by Allason nor any reporting of the letters of admission he demanded;
The story of John Stonehouse. Now whilst you see a radicalised zealot looking to overthrow the Western democracy he served, I see a chancer who wanted money at all costs. Did he provide the Soviets with secret documents whilst a Labour MP? Yes. Why did he do that? I'd suggest that the Security Service is setting new teams to deal with more threats from the left is proof enough.
That is a sign of clear and present danger.
The links I posted where hurridley compiled but given time I could bring them up to date.
A very good book is Gordon Carrera's "Russians Among Us" which offers great detail on how the Russians play the long game in these matters and as such pose a threat today through hard left infiltration which is both real and serious.
The other book is GCHQ; A Century Edition.
Again it talks of repeated attempts to infiltrate and disrupt, but also of operations, against targets on the left.
Naturally there is a limit to what they can publish but reading between the lines I'd suggest there is a very healthy amount of trouble coming from the left.
But don't forget that the left has never gone away in it's threat to our modern democratic society. It just changes with the times.

I'd envisage vegans and the others are included because of their probable links/infiltration by/to the hard left. Not sure but am summising there.

I'd suggest that the Security Service is setting new teams to deal with more threats from the left is proof enough.
That is a sign of clear and present danger.
The links I posted where hurridley compiled but given time I could bring them up to date.
A very good book is Gordon Carrera's "Russians Among Us" which offers great detail on how the Russians play the long game in these matters and as such pose a threat today through hard left infiltration which is both real and serious.
The other book is GCHQ; A Century Edition.
Again it talks of repeated attempts to infiltrate and disrupt, but also of operations, against targets on the left.
Naturally there is a limit to what they can publish but reading between the lines I'd suggest there is a very healthy amount of trouble coming from the left.
But don't forget that the left has never gone away in it's threat to our modern democratic society. It just changes with the times.
The current Government, well I wanted Hunt over Boris 8 days in every week. I'm not a fan of BJ and can't wait for him to go. I've never stood 4square behind him and won't.

The funny thing about Hampy is he isn’t very bright, or thinks everyone else is thick.
If I was a Russian and wanted to infiltrate in order to do bad things.
Would I infiltrate opposition protest groups, or a ruling party, and try and achieve things like disrupting organisations that I didn’t like, say the EU.
Would that be a Russian long game?

In his head it's still the Cold War. His entire conception of the left comes from 70s and 80s era Bond films. It's genuinely bonkers. He's so far detached from reality that I don't even know where to begin with him. I think he needs some professional help and I'm not saying that as a dig, it's really quite worrying. | |
