So it's confirmed Essex is going up to tier 2 on Saturday. I live on the border so it's strange to think that my little group of friends will not be able to meet up at some of our regular cafe's and pubs but will be able to still do so in others.

It essentially boils down to slightly different tones of voice used to say 'should you REALLY be going to see your nan? Pub's open'.

Indeed.

The whole 'substantial meal' exception is so transparently there to benefit Wetherspoons and Brexit Tim as to be absurd.

Completely agree, it is almost unenforceable if you travel across borders to see family in their homes.

All comes down to your own personal beliefs and circumstances.

Almost as if the government need a strong, clear, decisive plan to sort this out

You can still meet with them outside CBBlue keeping your social distance and in groups of up to 6 people. Appreciate that's not as appealing as in the summer months!

Indeed it is, personally I just wish they'd do the circuit breaker soon rather than later but now Starmer has called for it I'm guessing they'll resist even longer as saving face is preferable to saving lives for Matt and Boris.

As in March, it will be too late and then will have to be longer than it could have been, had we acted promptly.

Imagine living in a village like Bures which has a river running through it which acts as the boundary between Suffolk and Essex. The village has three pubs within 300 yards of each other. Two are in Essex and one in Suffolk. I suspect the landlord of the Suffolk one is rubbing his hands with glee.

That's madness! There'll be lots of (slightly less extreme) examples, one of our regular* cafes is in Essex but they're so close to Suffolk their garden literally touches the Stour border.

*when I say regular I mean pre-covid as I'm one of the few who didn't eat out to help out as being in a busy indoor venue didn't appeal.

I live in Ipswich but work in Marks Tey, so what, if any implications does this have on me?!

Correction - it should be longer than it could have been. No doubt it will be lifted earlier than necessary.

The system seems all over the place.

- Liverpool in Tier 3 with 600 cases but Nottingham in Tier 2 with 750+ cases.

- Essex and London in Tier 2 with 100 cases but Manchester also in Tier 2 with 450 cases.

So how do they make decisions on who enters what tier?

Rock, paper, scissors?
