Nearly 60,000 covid cases 16:35 - Dec 31 with 7509 views | chrismakin | Yet supermarkets still allow hundreds of shoppers in without a care in the world Little ones going to crowd together in schools next week despite boris advising covid loves a crowd I can't believe with the oxford vaccine now available to they haven't done a full uk hard lockdown and push the vaccine as quick as possible. I get businesses down want to stay closed.. but the longer this pathetic tier system goes on the worse it is. Just lockdown the island. Nothing in nothing out All businesses closed army delivers food only care homes and NHS businesses open.

Nearly 60,000 covid cases on 18:03 - Dec 31 by DebsyAngel | Agree with your points. We have only been shopping 3 times between us a week - my husband does the main shop alone at the local Aldi/Coop/Home Bargains and again midweek for stuff like milk/salad/fruit. I go once a week into town to get stuff that is not sold/run out in Boots and Sainsburys. I noticed in the November lockdown that the few shops I do go in still had door staff but were letting far too many people in. Don't ever see any cleaning going on in any place now, and distancing seems to be a thing of the past. I try my best to distance and take my own hand wipes to clean basket handles/rails I need to use. Also gel my hands at every opportunity. The markings on paths are all faded/peeled off and no attempt at anyone to stay on the correct sides of the street - the most basic of rules. We also clean everything we buy/bags etc each time, and also wipe down any post. I am terrified of spending another year like this. It has nearly finished me off mentally and emotionally and I am struggling to carry on to be honest. |
Your last sentence is why I think we should have 1 full and last lockdown get the vaccine out, and after the lockdown, everything is back open and we have no choice but to live with it, just because things would open again, it doesn't mean you just ignore the safety advice, pubs etc should continue to do the group of 6, sit down service only etc. but least we can have normality back again otherwise, it could be yet another painful year

I appreciate what you have put but would rather the delivery slots went to the really needy and elderly. I have to go out, otherwise it would cause me longer term damage and I would have agoraphobia, as much as I hate it.

If we had a competent Government I'd agree with you, sadly we don't. The November lockdown was far too short and they released it far too early which is contributing to the numbers now. There should have been no release early on 2nd December and it should have ran all the way through t Christmas. I have no confidence that this Government will not make the same mistake again. The first lockdown was far more effective because it was more rigorous, with less exceptions and and wasn't eased quickly. It delayed the next wave by months. We need similar again.

Novembers lockdown was shambolic tbh, then by leaving it so late to say on tier 4 cant have xmas together, I know sadly loads of poeple that had already bought all their foods etc and basically stuck 2 fingers up at boris and had their xmas's as planned Then and this is the bit i love, they then gave other counties 3 extra days notice before turning to tier 4 on boxing day, basically giving everyone permission in those tiers to go an mix despite the need to move them to tier 4 I dread to think the case/death numbers in the next 4 weeks following this xmas period I find it even more baffling that fireworks have been allowed to be sold, i've already seen posts galore of different associates planning garden parties etc

Nearly 60,000 covid cases on 17:26 - Dec 31 by factual_blue | The total number of armed forces personnel in the UK is around 195,000. The number of households in the UK is around 28 million. I'll let you do the maths. Even if all 195,000 were available to deliver food (which, obviously they aren't),each one of those 195,000 would have to make four deliveries an hour for forty hours a week. A logistical impossibility. |
Good maths. Always like it when people show their workings. [Post edited 31 Dec 2020 19:26]

I complained to Tesco that there were too many people in my local small store without masks. They said their policy was not to challenge. While I get that it would be difficult for staff, but if I walked out without paying I would expect to be challenged. They're not even anti-maskers, just can't be @rsed.

I dont understand that " Not to challenge" youre not challenging, you have someone on the door, signs up, no masks no entry, if they kickoff and get aggressive you call the police, no different if they got aggressive because you've asked for ID for fags etc.

Exactly this, which is why today i told 2 blokes with masks under their chin to " put your masks on or get out of my f@cking space". The first bloke did put his mask on, the second one got close again and got my trolley in his knees. Hope it hurt, tosser.

I'll be honest Debsy, and I don't want to come across as an @sshole here, but I struggle to read your posts as every one is so negative. I really think your mental health would do so much better if you could find positive things to fill your mind with instead of always dwelling on the negative. It might seem hard right now but try with your husband, when you go to bed tonight, to list 10 things you're grateful for. It can be anything - "I'm alive"; "I have food"; "I have shelter"... and it can be silly little things like' "I saw a cute robin in the garden" and "I got off my arris and did the clothes washing even though I didn't really feel like it," and "Dinner was DELISH." Honestly, it's easier than you think to come up with 10 each - taking it in turns - and if you do it every day it soon becomes a habit of positivity and makes you feel good and grateful for what you have. You can even drop in cheeky/fun ones like "My husband has a cute bum." I can see positives in your post I'm replying to - "I have a partner to help me through all this", "He did the main shop... like a caveman going out and bringing back the food", "I had milk for my tea today... that 3rd cup was BANGING. really hit the nail..." There you go, 3 for free! Honestly, it really helps and can be quite fun. The more you actively look for the positives the more you'll find.

They may as well have just announced that they were angling for the @rsehole pound instead. As for click-and-collect, it makes no sense whatsoever. If your product can be delivered then there's no need to get/allow customers to come to your store to collect it. And then don't get me started on the fact that garden centres, pawnbrokers, and vape shops have been classed as essential businesses... [Post edited 31 Dec 2020 19:59]

It's not an easy one, especially at the moment. I'd say to note the things that make you happy - and try and do more of them. And the things that make you unhappy - and try and do less of those. So Debsy, you say you enjoy going outside - but not inside shops clearly. So get outside - but avoid the shops! Find a quiet green space would be my idea, somewhere that people ignoring social distancing (that you find stressful) won't be. And you enjoy music - so listen to a load of music :-) You know your faves - so listen to them. Tune in to a radio station that plays your sounds.
