What would the penalty be for going beyond the salary cap? Is it a points deduction or a financial penalty or have they not made it clear?

What would the penalty be for going beyond the salary cap? Is it a points deduction or a financial penalty or have they not made it clear?

“An ‘overrun’ concept is also included if a club’s total squad salary payments exceed the cap by up to 5 per cent, whereby dependent on the percentage level of the overrun, a financial penalty [reportedly £3] would be payable for every £1 in excess.

“Clubs exceeding the ‘overrun’ would be referred to an Independent Disciplinary Commission, although the EFL will monitor the cap on a real-time basis throughout the season as is the current position with SCMP measures across the two divisions.

“Where breaches do occur, sanction guidelines are in place to be considered as appropriate by an independent Disciplinary Commission.”

Isn't that crass though? How many clubs that have the resources will simply factor in the fine? It is like the lack of teeth that FFP had. Surely, if it is needed, it has to be a points penalty or it is simply redirecting where the overspend goes (to the league instead of to players) and potentially driving a club that gambled to financial ruin more quickly.

I'm amazed in this day and age there isn't a blanket insurance policy at most clubs to cover such eventualities.
With our record the premium would be through the roof though.

If they're away on loan they don't count. But the likes of Przybek won't count as they're under 21.
