ME's people spoke to his people back in August after he left Wigan, that's a true story and some def info, so we're definitely aware of him. I would make him clear favourite for the job. He snubbed Cardiff because they only offered him terms until the end of the season, I would imagine he's very interested in coming to Ipswich and building something longer term.

As others have said, ME tends to line up a replacement before making any changes, other than with Mick which was understood by all parties that he was leaving, but I think happened a little sooner than expected on Micks terms. Wouldn't be surprised if the line off communication to Paul Cook opens back up again soon, if it isn't already. It could even have been a factor in the Cardiff decision. But I'm not sure what significance him being on Sky has on any of it.

Personally I think Evans will play the nostalgia card, Butcher/Dyer, something on those lines as he’s got nothing else left in his locker to try to keep the fan base onboard.

I also think it won’t happen just yet and will be combined with the new season ticket pitch for obvious reasons. I’d like to think that won’t work but judging by Evans tenure here you clearly can fool some of the people all of the time!

Altho it should be pointed out that people have appeared as pundits on the EFL show and on Radio5 immediately prior to taking managerial jobs (without letting the cat out of the bag on air). So perhaps not too much ought to be read into it either way.

Good Lord! Whatever is it?

Does Cook have a hard and fast 'team' of ppl he takes with him everywhere he goes?

Maybe the 'nostalgia card' can be ticked by integrating Dyer into his wider coaching team somehow.

Just do it Marcus.

I heard similar but he's not the only one who was spoken to and sounded out in that manner, the Cowleys the same I gather, and maybe others.

Don't think there's any chance of a managerial change before the end of the season, but if we don't go up then even ME might realise the obvious

I think if he does go down the Dyer route it will be purely financial, he won't command the salary the Cowleys/Cook will require, it will mitigate costs against Lamberts severance.

Cook also has compensation due to Wigan for whichever job he takes, so would Marcus go down that route in this current climate, I'm not so sure.

Seem to remember TWTD reporting that some payment would be due Wigan's administrators? Any idea how much?

No, but that is the case from what I was told in the summer. PC would still be in contract, hence cash due to his next club and administrator apparently determined to pursue it.

that rules that out then i suspect.

Im not totally sure on Cook, didn't he leave Portsmouth because he wanted to live in the north? Heard he likes a beer (not a bad thing). We really need someone who's going to drive it on and off the pitch if Evans isn't going to make any non playing staff changes in structure and im not sure Cook is that type of manager.

We need more than a manager in the current set up.

Completely agree that finances will be a large part of the decision but our Illustrious owner also has a real problem looming in the very near future.

The new season ticket campaign must be due soon whilst at the same time, anecdotally at least, more and more people are cancelling their season tickets for this season let alone next.

It’s going to be a very hard sell and what has he got to offer? More Operation Premiership, more five year plans, more taking a hands on approach? It’s all bullsh1t and the fans know it. The only thing he’s got left to run with is nostalgia.

I may be wrong, time will tell.

Agreed, that's another reason why Lambert is on borrowed time, if he is still here come ST renewals then Evans has a huge problem on his hands as it could quite conceivably drop down to 3-4k tickets being sold and that is being optimistic, add the fact that we don't know when fans will be allowed back in (I'm thinking September at the earliest) then it could be even lower with traditional holders thinking they will see how it goes rather than commit.

Big question looming for Evans.

Are Sky sending pundits to EFL games, or is it all being done from a central studio?

If he is at Portman Road, maybe he can carry Lambert's cardboard box to the car after the game. Peaceful transfer of power and all that...

If Evans was smart, this time around he’d listen to the fans and what we want rather than appointments plucked out of the air which catch everyone by surprise or are on the say so of people like Redknapp. Judging by the sentiment on this forum, it’s a two way fight between the Cowleys and Cook and lesser so Butcher and Dyer. Given the circumstances, and the latter is too much of a gamble, anything less than the Cowleys or Cook would be disappointing unless, of course, we brought in an unknown quantity from abroad.

Evans maybe be forced to act before he is ready in which case he may ask Butcher and Dyer to stand in for the two or three games. If they show a significant improvement then he could take the cheaper option, but offer a substantial bonus for promotion this season.

As an aside wonder if Paul Cook, if in Ipswich today, will take a look at U23’s and speak to Dyer and Butcher.

The Sky thing. I reckon he’s had discussions with ME, and I also feel Lambert’s days are almost up, sooner than some think. If this is the case then I’d be surprised if he’s sat there giving his opinions on a team/manager that he’s (hopefully) about to take over/succeed.

Big Fat Sam recently pulled out of a punditry slot for WBA. You know the rest.
