This EU demand for AZ vaccines is going to get very messy on 20:04 - Jan 29 by Ryorry
People having flags next to their names doesn't mean they're being party political on individual issues. I'd have an EU flag next to my twitter name if I could be arsed and had the space, yet I'm perfectly prepared to accept whatever's actually legally correct in the contract.
Edited to add that it may not have been clear, but my post was purely in response to Otto Parsnips re the contract, and not in any way to the chap he was replying to re 60 years' peace in Europe.

Where it's party political is the EU keep bashing AZ instead of seemingly approaching the UK government. If the contract does say that it needs to meet 100m doses before the vaccine can be exported then the UK government could say AZ do not need to meet that part of the contract in order to boost EU numbers. In order to do that the EU will have to do a lot of grovelling so the UK government can save face with the tabloid press.

There were loads on here openly laughing at the Brexiters because we didn't sign up.
Their dealing of the fallout on this is exactly why I don't trust or have any respect for the charlatans.
"Charlatans"? I'm assuming you mean people on this site who think Brexit is a stupid idea (for many reasons we're now seeing). What has been "their dealing of the fallout on this"? I've not seen people fawning over the EU on this, despite what you're trying to make out. Any examples? Or are you just talking bollox and buying into the culture war nonsense around Brexit?
The EU have been slow on this and many "charlatans"on here have said as much. Interesting that you don't seem interested on why they've been slow, but that's another thread.

I think LL’s charlatans comment was aimed at the EU rather than at anyone on here.

There is an interesting article in the Independent. A contracts lawyer who’s looked at what’s been published reckons the EU publishing it means they’ve shot themselves in the foot. The EU according to him/her hasn’t a legal leg to stand on.
In another bit of news, they’ve invoked article 16 of the Brexit Agreement to stop Pfizer vaccine coming from the EU to NI and in turn the rest of the U.K. Theoretically that means a ‘hard border’. Nice. Also means a delay to the vaccination programme of a couple of months.
The EU members have accused the U.K. of all sorts of stuff today and some of their language has been awful. They’re thrashing around like a hooked fish. The U.K. govt by keeping quiet on this at the moment is right in keeping its powder dry. That makes it 2 things it’s got right out of about 50 in the last year.
Lastly, it turns out the EU hasn’t signed an agreement for the new Novavax vaccine yet. I presume as it’s one of the best, subject to approval, they will and be demanding the Stockton on Tees manufacturer sends the vaccine to them first. Jog on.
They’re not covering themselves in glory.

Yeah but apparently membership of the EU is the ultimate in the socialist Internationale....and nothing to do with throwing your weight around in a globalist sh1tstorm !

The French one has failed and has been scrapped. Which begs the question, why can't these companies collaborate with each other for the greater good and produce the same vaccine?
Because the Pharma companies only care about the shareholders pockets, not the people. Why would they want to share potential profits with other companies?

AZ are going to have trouble sharing their profits of this vaccine. Its being sold at cost. That of course might prevent other companies getting involved directly with manufacturing it.
