Mings 21:20 - Mar 25 with 3462 views | Portman_Pie | Does anyone else get that irrepressible feeling of proud joy when watching him play for England - knowing he came to us on a complete punt - made it, and has subsequently gone on to represent the 11 most elite players in the country? Again - credit to Mick / the scouting team at the time to achieve this... #Boys done bloody good

Mings on 07:25 - Mar 26 by Coastalblue | He can't be much good, he only cost £10K and a packet of rolos, I suppose at least he wasnt a free but imagine how good he would have gone on to be if we had paid a million pounds for him. |
See Lee Martin, Tamas Priskin, and the Scouser from Peterborough who got in a pub punch up in town. They were all £1m plus weren't they? At least Tamas scored against Arsenal

Mings on 23:39 - Mar 25 by Churchman | I think he was always going to be a Centre Half. I think MM indicated that when he broke into the team. In my view Cresswell was a far better full back than Mings (a bit unfair on Mings as He’d only just broken into first team football). Cresswell was good enough to play for England. He was a really good player and I enjoyed watching him play. |
It's also the case that most Prem/international level CBs have plenty enough skill to play FB in the Championship.

Mings on 21:35 - Mar 25 by SitfcB | It’s a shame Cresswell didn’t push on for England as well, think he got injured not long after getting his first call up. I saw the other day that he’s now the second highest on the West Ham appearances list for the Premier League. |
I wish we had kept Cresswell. If we had imagine if we could have utilised Mings and he in the same squad that season. We may have gone up as Champions. But we cashed in and lost out as normal.

I highly doubt Cresswell would have been the difference between 6th and 1st, particularly as our defence was fine. It was our pretty limited midfield that was the difference between us and the teams that went up. A proper box to box midfielder and a decent winger probably would have seen us go up

Mings on 00:17 - Mar 26 by wkj | I love Mings, and I am glad he developed into a centre back role. Not a thing wrong with him on the wing when he was here, but I always though he had a lot of the makings of a box general. And to think a number of people on here called him rubbish or words to those effect. |
Sometimes you read a sequence of posts in a thread on here which end with something that reduces you to hysterical laughter. Some criticism of Mings iafter the first half of a 4-1 defeat at Middlesbrough in March 2015 did that to me. I can’t remember the posters but it was 4 posts within the one thread. It started with someone criticising Tyrone for being too ungainly and “laboured” in possession. The next post, which presumably had not seen the contents of the first post bemoaned how careless and “bloody casual” Mings was on the ball. At which point a poster wondered how it was possible to be both laboured and casual. Surely that was an oxymoron? And then the coup de grace was delivered by a poster adding a simple two word answer to the question, which said simply, “Casual labour”. You had to be there. As for Mings, I love the fact that he doesn’t seem to have lost the sense of someone who both loves what he does and enjoys doing it. There’s no posing or posturing. No diva-like behaviour. He still seems relatable, grounded and fascinated with the possibility of being as good a player as he can be.

Mings on 00:05 - Mar 26 by judespiveyg | What stood out to me about Mings was his attacking ability though that's the thing, used to fly down the line, which is why I've always been surprised he's a centre half, in my mind he was everything a modern full back should be. As for comparing him to Cresswell, who was also a great player for us, I think he comes out on top in a lot of individual aspects. Taller, more physical, faster, better attacking ability, better in the air, better tackler. Cresswell was maybe fractionally better on the ball. Obviously Cresswell was the better crosser (my Dad reckons Muhren's the only player who beats Cresswell for crossing.) [Post edited 26 Mar 2021 0:07]

From memory, I would say Jamie Clapham comes in close on the crossing ability too,

Mings on 08:15 - Mar 27 with 410 views | ElephantintheRoom | Yes I do - though I dont think it had much to do with MM or the club's scouting system - more to do with Russel Osman's enduring love for the club and watching his son play non-league football. I also get a great deal of satisfaction most weeks from the performance of Aaron Creswell in my fantasy league team. Again not much to do with Town's scouting system - and everything to do with Jewell treading water as a Sky pundit on mersey football. Its rather odd that after excelling for so long for the 'ammers he is still relatively unsung and undervalued
