Anyone else finding Brexit causing huge issues in their work environment? 09:42 - Apr 1 with 1775 viewshype313

It's an absolute sh!tshow out there, various shipments taking 3-4 weeks to arrive, shipments lost somewhere in the north sea and no one has any idea where they are, archaic paperwork, mammoth delays all over the place.

I thought one of the main reasons why people voted for Brexit was to remove the bureaucracy and red tape, we have ended up with far more!

Yep. I own a shop and we're obviously trying to get reopened for the 12th. None of the orders we're expecting have yet arrived and no-one can tell us when they're likely to. It used to be 2-3 days from shipment date, now who knows?
It's not that Brexit is going to stop trade with the EU outright, it's just going to cause a slow strangulation of it.

If it's rubber arses you're waiting on, they've been stuck in the Suez canal for a week.
On their way now though!!

Aside from having to set up shop in the EU, moving half our staff there and then spending months and god-knows-how-much on post-Brexit regulatory compliance, can't say it's been much of an issue, really.

But then again, we only employ Good Foreigners, not the ones with headscarves or the ones what pick fruit - they were the real issue. Rule Britannia.

I'm trying to ship a couple of pallets from Germany as we speak and I am being quoted €1100 a pallet.

Granted our goods are always a pain to ship and also always expensive but these prices are crazy, basically no one wants to do it.

Mind you.... there is at present a global shipping crisis caused by many things.

Has that figure gone up since Brexit? What was it before?

Our issues precede this Suez problem, but that hasn't helped, our issues stem from January.

As you say the cost for importing palletts has gone through the roof.

Still, I'm sure some people are happy.

There is never a flat rate because we have to see each time who is willing to take the job, the stuff we ship are classed as explosives and it's a headache. We normally settle on €300 a pallet.

I think things will calm down but there is a real global shipping crisis out there. Normal goods from China are generally around £2000 freight per container but recently went up to £13,000. It then went down to £7000 but has rocketed again since the Suez incident. Our goods are normally around $9,500 per container, I dread to think what they are at the moment, probably about $20,000 and that's if a shipping company is prepared to take it.

Yes, and the very attractive ones from the EU, obviously - they can stay.

Could that be down to the pandemic more than Brexit? Or is it a perfect storm of the two together?
