British No 1`s when ten 11:54 - Apr 2 with 5975 viewstiptreeblue

I have just seen a thread on Facebook, asking what was No1 when you were ten, and spookily, mine was Those were the days by Mary Hopkin

Yes it was 73 but I was trying to find the exact date.

I quite liked Don't Cry for me Argentina, mind you I liked Julie Covington. I also liked The Rock Follies but we'll skip that one.

This is an underrated cover classic.

Can The Can was number one on 16th June 1973 it seems.

Wow, so I was still 7.

I wonder if I was able to get an erection then?

Beatles - Twist and Shout
Possibly Can't buy me love as it replaced Twist and Shout.
The no 1 before Twist and Shout was She Loves You.

1962 - Town div1 champs
1964 - Beatlemania
1966 - England World Cup winners
1969 - Woodstock
The 60's were great.

I had Twist and Shout too but sadly by Chaka Demus & Pliers

I do remember my very first sighting of Suzi Q on TOTP with her singing Can The Can-she certainly got my attention.

edit-she never replaced my true love, Sandie Shaw, though.

I remember singing it out loud whilst on my own in the car as I was driving to pick up my son
on Playoff Final day 2000.

YI love you love me love...Gary feckng Glitter.

Squashed inbetween Daydreamer/The Puppy Song by David piggin Cassidy and Merry bleedin Christmas by Slade.

What a crap line up.

Had to wait too many years for Punk/New Romantics/Rave/Hip Hop/UK Grime to come along for some decent music.

Balls

Sorry, forgot Reggae and two tone. The 70's weren't all sh!t....

I think for decent music you would have been a lot better going backwards, possibly quite a long way, but that is just my opinion,

Yes to this. Some of Led Zep, The Animals, Yardbirds. Can't stand rock 'n roll. Each to their own obviously.

Going waaaay back, I also like Delta Blues (Son House style, rather than Robert Johnston).
