I would agree with you on Gill, just that with Richardson likely to join plus Roberts and Dyer apparently impressing Cook that might be one coach too many.

Walker was spot on with his comment that it's a crap league but, yes, that isn't really how a coach should be interacting.

Richardson sounds increasingly likely to stay at Wigan, so might have to be someone else for the assistant manager's role. Maybe one of the others you mention. Not sure how big a staff he'll want and only room for so many first-team coaches, so wouldn't surprise me if Gill does go in the summer. Nice bloke as others have said. He may well want to try his hand at managing himself, that has long been his ambition.

So Mcgreal in as Assistant then.

Gutted bout Leam, but it would be Ipswich who employ a manager without his assistant.

That would be quite an interesting decision to make if it isn't Richardson, especially given the changed circumstances of the club. Feels like it might be a bit much for Dyer but that would be rather nice.

I don't buy the idea that Cook without Richardson is rubbish as some have been claiming in recent weeks anyway.

Do you have any insight into how Gill is received as a coach? He seems to be well liked, even on here, but he’s a big part of a coaching setup for a team that looks like it hasn’t been coached in years. Obviously the ultimate responsibility lies with the manager so its hard to say how much, if any, influence he’s had on training.

No one can say if he is or isn't yet as he's never managed long term without Leam

But we've not had a great history with managers who didn't have their 'normal' assistants with them

I've heard people say they think he's a decent coach. He's obviously he's had this spell to give himself a chance to impress Cook.

Although Richardson gave up the managers role at Chesterfield (?) to join Cook at Wigan. Not everyone wants to be a manager, so even if they want him to stay its not a foregone conclusion that he will.

So, International Goalkeeper Day is the same day as Bryan Gunn's most famous moment? That's good to know.

Not really a great surprise, I would imagine Gill will be gone at the end of the season too.

He may have improved Holy's kicking a bit but there's not too much of anything else - although it might just be that there isn't enough there to improve much.

I think even that's a bit of a stretch in truth.

Not disappointed with this announcement in the slightest. We used to bring through good, promising goalkeepers. Our answer to that in recent seasons was to bring in Cornell or rotate Norris and Holy.

A good manger finds people with a skill set to complement their own, there's no law that it has to be the same person all the time and, in many cases, fresh input is healthy. If Cook is good enough to succeed here then he will build a coaching team that works effectively.#

If he can't do the job without one particular person with him then he isn't very good at his job anyway.

Burley was an excellent manager, however when we sadly lost Roberts, Burley had lost his right arm. It happens alot with managers... Lambert/Culverhouse. etc

Hardly the same is it. That's just tweeting about a rival company. West Ham are having the season of their life and he's supports them.

Contrary to popular belief - people who work in football are also allowed to enjoy things outside of the job with us.

But it's not about enjoyment, he could go watch west ham outside of his work hours etc

Social media is a powerful tool, it's a positive and a negative

The fact people associate Walker with talking about west ham more than his work at Town only shows how he's used it incorrectly

Accrington, I think. But that was around a decade ago so his ambitions may have changed.

Malcolm is a legend, I was coached by him for years, great coach, lovely bloke. When we was presumably earning good money coaching the town keepers by day, he would travel down from Cambridge a couple of nights a week to coach a load of enthusiastic kids at Kesgrave/Northgate. You won't find many top coaches doing that in their spare time.

I remember that.
A guy called Malcolm Brown was the link, he was a really lovely chap, not seen him for years.
I used to help MW and Ben at Cambridge on a Saturday morning.
