Housing what would you rather question on 20:51 - Apr 18 by giant_stow | It really is age old stuff at heart innit. St Albans looked lovely on my only visit! Edit I used to get the Thameslink into the city and its was super quick as you say. [Post edited 18 Apr 2021 20:56]

It is quite pleasant from what I’ve seen of it, but there’s reflected in the pricing. I want to be an hour to work max as think I’ll be in 3-4 days a week once things settle. I don’t really want to leave London though.

Suffolk's gone pretty crazy in the last year. That's a nice house and price is actually pretty decent given the demand in the last year. Listed is always a put off though. The stamp duty reduction has boosted it a lot. You'd have to put a bit of cash into this but it's got nice grounds and bags of potential if you could get the price down a slither. https://www.rightmove.co.uk/property/90755185 [Post edited 18 Apr 2021 22:05]

Housing what would you rather question on 20:19 - Apr 18 by Oldsmoker | Eeeee, when I was a lad, Walthamstow was not a desirable area. You could buy a street for that price. |
Have you heard about Burnley?

Housing what would you rather question on 23:50 - Apr 18 with 711 views | Churchman | I would buy neither. But if it was either or, I’d go for the house. No leasehold issues - you own the land and the building. However good the flat is, it’s still a conversion of an old building. It’d need to be a very good conversion to be worth it for me. Chopping around old houses can work. A friend had a lovely flat like this in Bromley, but it developed all sorts of issues over time. Older buildings tend to require a lot of maintenance. Many were badly and cheaply built in the first place. No foundations, inadequate roof timbers, poor or zero damp proofing, sound proofing, insulation and fire, rotting floor joists.... there’s a reason why in general, insuring a Victorian building costs more than a newer one. Edit: the flat was once part of a rather grand, expensive property. Servants n all that. [Post edited 18 Apr 2021 23:54]

Housing what would you rather question on 09:47 - Apr 19 with 634 views | ChiefXL | Put a gun to my head and I'll say the flat. But my advice to anyone living in London is get the hell out of London. It'll be the best thing you ever do.

Housing what would you rather question on 10:24 - Apr 19 with 608 views | Swansea_Blue | Flat for me. The house needs buckets of work and I much prefer the high ceilings/larger space in the flat. I wouldn't be too keen to lose a garden though. You don't get much for half a million bucks do you? You can get 4 beds detached, double garage, off road parking in the most desirable areas in this part of the world for roughly the same or even less.

You mean you'd rather live here than a 2 up 2 down in London: https://www.rightmove.co.uk/property/72386556

That's what I think every time I see a house in London for whatever price. Just a lost opportunity to buy something nice in the country.

That garden looks so claustrophobic to me. High fence, narrow strip of land. I think it was Guthrum who said you could have some outside buildings but that would make me feel even more closed in. I'm quite lucky where I am now. Decent sized flat and my own decent patch of private garden. Those prices are absolutely insane.

Housing what would you rather question on 13:04 - Apr 19 with 537 views | Dubtractor | Dreadful house, with an AstroTurf hellscape outside, or a quite nice flat. No decision there, and I spend almost all my spare time in the garden. To repeat the numerous comments though, London House prices are even more crackers than I thought.

Housing what would you rather question on 13:06 - Apr 19 with 535 views | BiGDonnie | GFF looks much bigger so I'd probably lean towards that. I'd be keen to know freehold/leasehold situation as well as what the neighbours above are like? They might throw a load of dog poo at you while you're getting high
