...washing the pants for Wigan one week and coaching the first team at Ipswich the next.

WTactualF?

If what Chico is saying is true, then WTactualF indeed. It would be peak ITFC under Evans to tuck up the new owners through such an arrangement. The pinnacle of Peak Ipswich in the Evans banter era.

I can't see how they'd stand for it. What's the point of bringing in a managmenet team that's impotent?

Poll: Do you think Pert is key to all of this?

Well no, it’s clearly made up.

Exactly. From an outsider's point of view (I mean never having been in a football coaching environment) it seemed to me that as Cookie & Craney had spent considerable amounts of time in football together, it may well be that Craney has frequently made suggestions to Cook that had quite simply changed situations for the better & worked well - whether training methods, leaving out/bringing in players, changing tactics during games etc etc.

You don't necessarily need qualifications to have good ideas, good eyes & good experience. Worth giving anyone a chance, they could turn out to be the creative genius that makes the difference!

To be fair Cook took a punt on Roberts, so he's got two first team coaches with no badges or experience.

I think one is a punt, two is a bit of a risk.

Francis Jeffers is our most experienced coach. (Not sure he has any first team experience)

Well Lambert is fully qualified yet the first team couldn’t manage two training sessions or two halves of football.

Cook can’t ‘get a tune out of the players’, Cook needs to bin out all the players, Cook needs to keep the players. Cook shouldn’t appoint that kit man and so it goes on. It’s beginning to feel like a let’s pile in on Cook agenda regarding everything he says and does.

Here we are, an established mid-table League One club. We belong here, accepting beatings by the likes of Swindon at home and Gillingham away, until we decline sufficiently to fall into L2. All of a sudden some people are trying to do something about it. Yet people are ‘concerned’, ‘worried’, ‘shocked and disappointed’ etc etc.

Cook can bring in Tintin and Snowy for all I care. The time I’ll be concerned is if in August we have anything that resembles the unfit, hapless shower that have shamefully turned out for this club in the past 3 years.

It’s not true. It’s just speculation. But it’s a fact that when you buy a business you inherit the contracts of the employees and they are protected under law. Hence why it’s interesting to look at Cooks incoming staff through this prism. Evans always gave full control to his managers on the playing/first team coaching side and there’s no reason to think Cook is any different since it was Evans who appointed him. And as I said earlier compare the incoming first team coaching staff under Cook with the incoming ITFC staff under O,Leary.

I think the owners have no choice as Cook is operating with complete carte blanche on playing side decisions (like all of Evans’ managers) due to his contract agreement with the previous owner.

That’s definitely a possibility. A dispiriting one all the same, suggests a limited timespan for Cook regardless of results over the next few months and might explain his more erratic decision making.

I hope we don’t end up regretting honouring that and not just insisting that PC work within the new ethos of the club.

Alternatively, perhaps he learned from that previous experience & feels that his second "punt" is actually more soundly based?

Who knows? But one thing's certain - ie that he knows a helluva lot more about it than any of us! 😂

Unless someone wants to stick their mitt up & tell us which professional league football club/s they've previously managed.

I trust Cook to do what he thinks is best. If he screws up, that’s the time to complain.

This is a great point. Anthony Barry had a fairly ok playing career at Yeovil and is now rated highly enough to be kept on by Tuchel at Chelsea.

I think a more experienced assistant manager and GK coach would help me people feel more onboard about the coaching team.

Ah right, ok. I've never known whther the new owners were involved in teh appointment of Cook. We all assumed at the time that they had a input into his signing, but I don't know if that was ever confirmed.

If they weren't involved in the negotiations in any way, then sure that all makes sense. Fk it, who knows.

Surely it would be agreed at the contract stage that a manager could bring in a certain number of his own staff members?

Well exactly which means it's very hard to judge the appointment of Craney too soon.

But if all of our coaches are that inexperienced then I think there'd be legitimate concern.

Cook is very experienced.

Jeffers has five years at a prem youth team.

Roberts and Craney have spent their whole lives in football

If he signs a respected assistant then surely all os good? Not sure what Leam Richardsons credentials were before Cook hired him??

Not sure Roberts or Craney have even started their coaching badges?

Barry met Lampard while doing his coaching badges, which was a few years ago.

Wonder if he was qualified prior to PC appointment.

I think part of the concern with Craney is this quote from last year;

“I absolutely love my job. You get the banter with the players and staff, working with people you have played with and keeping involved on the football side. I started my coaching badges but a kitman suits me better."

Doesn't seem to be the same kind of driven character that Barry is.
