Decent promotion for Ian Craney.... on 16:21 - May 14 by SouperJim | Is it possible that Craney is replacing Pullen as kitman and they're just being crafty with his job title? It'll be massive blow for me if Kieron isn't involved. Have been so impressed with his press stuff of late, including how he spoke on BT Sport following the U18s semi-final the other night. We desperately need someone who understands this club to be part of the setup. |
Theres no way they are being strategic about a kit mans job title.

Just seems very odd to me that we're bringing in a kit man to be a coach when he has previously admitted coaching isn't for him.

Indeed he does, but there are plenty who wanted him out after 10 games with somebody else’s players and no training time. With his team in place and his players on the field, he will need to deliver and pretty quickly. Let’s see how it goes and give the bloke a chance. Regarding coaching qualifications Paul Hurst has a UEFA ‘A’ coaching licence and a degree in Professional Sports Writing and Broadcasting. Doug has Continental A Licence. Paul Lambert has a UEFA Pro Licence. That means they are better coaches than any Cook has appointed? I thought they were hopeless. Personally, I am not qualified to pick apart his appointments as people are queuing up to do. I don’t know him, the people he’s appointed or what these qualifications actually mean. I couldn’t care a less what qualifications they have. It comes down to whether they can do the job pure and simple.

Well, quite. Its why it;s so concerning that Cook is happy to bin off players who have a high potential ceiling; the short of short-term thinking the takeover is meant to move us away from.

It's not so much the qualifications that are the concerning bit, more the lack of coaching experience. Means they haven't proven they can do the job... yet. Ok if it's one or two, but when it's the entire coaching team... just a bit worrying.

Decent promotion for Ian Craney.... on 14:45 - May 14 by BiGDonnie | I'm trying to not be negative about stuff that's going on. Only Ipswich Town would employ a fookin kit man to train professional footballers. Imagine rocking up to training and your choice of coach is either a pissed up wife beater or a bloke who has openly admitted he would rather wash sh&tty pants than coach. What happened to getting the right people into the right roles? [Post edited 14 May 2021 14:47]

Jeffers has been coaching at Everton!? Norwich appointed a raft of U21 coaches when Farke joined. Of course he is appointing 'mates' - he has to work with these people everyday and trust them!

Well Lambert is fully qualified yet the first team couldn’t manage two training sessions or two halves of football. Cook can’t ‘get a tune out of the players’, Cook needs to bin out all the players, Cook needs to keep the players. Cook shouldn’t appoint that kit man and so it goes on. It’s beginning to feel like a let’s pile in on Cook agenda regarding everything he says and does. Here we are, an established mid-table League One club. We belong here, accepting beatings by the likes of Swindon at home and Gillingham away, until we decline sufficiently to fall into L2. All of a sudden some people are trying to do something about it. Yet people are ‘concerned’, ‘worried’, ‘shocked and disappointed’ etc etc. Cook can bring in Tintin and Snowy for all I care. The time I’ll be concerned is if in August we have anything that resembles the unfit, hapless shower that have shamefully turned out for this club in the past 3 years.

I understood him to say that taking the badges (the work involved) wasn't for him, rather than coaching wasn't for him. However I am a bit concerned that he has not any experience elsewhere and the role of kit man may have just meant he was a sort of odd job man. Clearly Cook has taken the job with the agreement that he has the final say on appointments - otherwise cannot see how this chap would have been appointed. Interesting times ahead, methinks.

I think the owners have no choice as Cook is operating with complete carte blanche on playing side decisions (like all of Evans’ managers) due to his contract agreement with the previous owner.

Decent promotion for Ian Craney.... on 16:08 - May 14 by Wacko | Guardiola had one year of coaching experience before being appointed Barcelona manager... Experience doesn't always come into it - or rather official experience. The fact is, whether Craney has been coaching or not, he's spent years in a Paul Cook environment and will know exactly what his boss will require to achieve success |
Exactly. From an outsider's point of view (I mean never having been in a football coaching environment) it seemed to me that as Cookie & Craney had spent considerable amounts of time in football together, it may well be that Craney has frequently made suggestions to Cook that had quite simply changed situations for the better & worked well - whether training methods, leaving out/bringing in players, changing tactics during games etc etc. You don't necessarily need qualifications to have good ideas, good eyes & good experience. Worth giving anyone a chance, they could turn out to be the creative genius that makes the difference!

Think it's almost going to be like two separate clubs, with all the scouse boys totally in it for the bantz and wanting to bring in their trusted old boys from Wigan etc, and then the suits with all the performance analysts and sports science guys wanting us to sign Moroccan wingers from French second division clubs.

I think this is literally the first thing Cook related that I've been even mildly critical of. Even now, I'm not saying it's a disaster, just a touch questionable. We'll see. I also think blind faith hasn't got us very far as a fanbase over the last few years. I think it's perfectly acceptable for fans to scrutinise the new setup a little, as we were all aboard the fun bus last time and look where that got us. There's a balance to be had of course. But this is a forum to discuss such things, no? [Post edited 14 May 2021 18:13]
