The thing is, new signings or lack of will be dictated by just how excited players are at joining Ipswich in League one, with a manager who hasn't got his main coach. Who threw a whole team under the bus. And sadly, a bunch of seasoned pros aren't quite going to be as excited about the idea of Paul Cook as Ipswich manager as we are.

They have options. Any decent player whose contract is up in the current climate is going to have their pick of clubs at a certain level. We just don't have the 'draw' some people seem to think we do.

Cooks approach only works if he can sign the players he wants. First two he's gone for, it appears, have turned him down flat. Let's hope he can do better.

I'm talking in general. We have been linked with alot of players already. There will no doubt be 2 or 3 more very soon of players apparently turning us down etc..

A bit of news in between that would go along way.

oh, its gone up to 3 now!!!

any advance on 3??

Having two extreme positions doesn't equal a balanced view, it's not cumulative.

Everyone needs to relax. It's May.

Mother of God, it's not even close to the end of May yet, I suspect barely anybody we are looking at is out of contract yet if they're going to be and if they're any good then they will have a number of options to weigh up.

If we get to August with a succession of players having turned us down and still have a paper thin squad then perhaps we can start worrying but doing so before the current season even finishes?

In terms of 'draw', we were a big club and a big 'draw' at this level before any takeover stuff happened, that's only increased since. We might not be stealing players from under the noses of promotion chasing Championship clubs but we really genuinely are a very attractive option for the best players in Division 3.

You keep saying you fully trust PC, but you keep having these mini meltdowns.

I see you point. But I still feel there is a prevailing attitude on here that Paul Cook is completely above criticism. And that isn't healthy. He's done a lot of things some fans don't think he's got right. They can still support the bigger picture of change. But how he achieves or tries to achieve that change is fair game to question. That is not flouncing or bed-wetting. Its judging events as they appear to be and questioning them when you don't think the decision or outcome is the right one. That's all.

This isn't Twitter though. I did look earlier and someone was calling out Phil for getting this "wrong" and then I looked on their profile and a few posts down was some nonsense about the media feeding us lies about C19 variants.

Given this sample size of one and the clear intellectual giant that he is, who cares what they say on there?

Judging the number of signings on 21st May very much is flouncing.

Think we need to be realistic and prepare ourselves for this "recruit like a Championship club" idea not to work too well. It's going to be incremental. Look at Man City (no i'm not comparing us to them). When they got mega money they didn't go out and buy the world's best players. They started off buying very good players then when they were at the next level they upgraded. Some of the names people are throwing out there are ridiculous.

We should be aiming to sign the cream of league one to go up. Preferably younger players who might step up. Then if we go up we can see who we can upgrade.

We do also seem to have collectively completely forgotten that football is also played in other countries, sometimes quite well too. There might be one or two players out there somewhere.

I think Cook has had a lot of criticism on here in the last couple of months, possibly more than might be expected too?

If Lambert came in after Mick I think PC would have more support.

Because we went through Hurst. I think many see PC as another Hurst

To be fair I think there are shades of Hurst there in terms of what he has done and said but as I've said before and as you've alluded to there, that makes people nervous because of what happened before.

PC has a lot to prove in my book, he's chosen to do it the hard way and the way that's going to put pressure on himself but hopefully he's proven right ultimately.

I'm not too worried atm. Losing out to Championship clubs is entirely understandable. It's when we lose out to other League 1 clubs (like we have done in recent seasons) that it becomes a big concern.

But it's you seeing it as a meltdown. I didnt start the thread I just replied to it. I'm not personally fussed as I think our business will be done in bulk mid june like Paul's previous jobs.

But I'm well aware of peoples needs to see movement especially as we will soon start to see where our current squad move onto. That's not me having a meltdown just appreciation some peoples needs for some positive action.

The BBC shows 13 completed transfers across the entire football league at the moment.

92 clubs, 13 transfers. You do the math. We are in no way falling behind.

Echoing the thoughts of the more sensible posters, can we all chill out please, 20/21 isn't even over yet!

Edit: This wasn't particularly aimed at the OP, more anyone saying we desperately need good news. It's been 12 days since we closed the season out with a 3-1 win, 12 days!

Guess the Bradley news is just a bit of a kick the you know what’s - in one breath it looks like we might be able to beat a Championship team to a signing and then normal service is resumed.

It’s that saying again - it’s the hope that’s getting me.

As I said on the relevant thread, I'm not bothered about Rhodes coming. I'm not particuarly surprised we're not snapping up Championship players either. My point is that Cook has done a lot of nice talking so far and not much else. He's set his stall out and some people on here think they're going to be watching the Harlem Globetrotters of lower league football next season. We're not.

Also plenty of time, agreed. But that is ticking. How many times in the past have we got to pre-season and half the squad are either injured or not ready or we've had a manager saying he'd have liked to bring in more players but couldn't? We have a history of missing out on signings.

The truth is there is time, but not as much as some people think. If your rebuilding a squad you want to get a lot if not the majority of you buisness done early.

There's going to a lot of clubs out there chasing exactly the same players as we are. The quicker we sign who we need the more likely we are to get what we want, and not be scrabbing around in a months time for 2nd or even 3rd choices.

So whether we as fans think they are the 'right' players for the club.

So far Paul Cook...

...has tried to sign Rhodes. And missed out.
...has tried to sign Bradley. And missed out.
...has tried to re-sign Edwards. And so far...no signature.

He has tried to sign all 3 therefore these are players he thinks he needs. No matter what we think of them. Therefore he is not 'currently' achieving anything.
