He averages a goal a game for PSG (granted in a weaker league) but if he carries France to the Euros title like he carried them to the World Cup does he then overtake them now they’re both reaching the end of their careers. Ronaldo and Messi’s numbers in 2011-15 were incredible - 50 odd league goals a season. Mbappe is doing a goal a game - it’s a weaker league but Messi or Ronaldo weren’t doing that at the same age. It’s a big ask for him to hit the same as the Messi/Ronaldo peak but you could definitely argue that his current ability is on a par with theirs. | |

He's excellent but he's some way off them yet in terms of their peak, but on current level he is probably on a par but that's only because of Messi/Ronaldo's age!
He still loses the ball way to much i think and despite his goals record in the last season wouldn't say he is anywhere near as clinical and ruthless as Messi/Ronaldo are.
But certainly has the ability to be at their peak level in the coming seasons, whether he will or not is a different matter as they are probably once in 25-50 years kind of footballer, and we have 2 of them at the same time! [Post edited 15 Jun 2021 22:36]

He's brilliant but he's no where near as good as either of them in my opinion.
I don't think the quality of football is as good in this current era as when Ronaldo and Messi first came through at young ages either. Compare the defenders the other two had to play against to nowadays and there's probably only 4-5 very good central defenders in world football.
France's team is superb all over the pitch and would probably win it even without Mbappe too. |  |

As for overall contribution and skill, he doesn't touch Messi and Ronaldo on control, passing accuracy, free kick taking, dribbling, leadership, consistency. There is still time of course but he is a long way off these greats.

When you say overtake, do you mean who is the better player right now? If it was a one off game on Saturday and I could add 1 of those 3 to the England side, it would still be Messi for me. Mbappe is a delight though, there's no doubt about that. He's frighteningly quick and he can finish, he'll continue to score a lot of goals over the next 6 or 7 years. I would be surprised if he has the longevity that CR or LM have shown though, purely due to the nature of his game.
In terms of overtaking their achievements, I would be surprised if he ever does over his career. |  |
