A bunch on here that are reveling in English bashing, aren't we scum, what has this nation become blah blah blah...

Like ALL countries we have a minority problem who are knuckle head, racist, idiotic scum.

But for christ sake, it's a MINORITY, the majority of this country are decent people who contrary to belief act properly and take responsibility for their actions.

Seriously I'm surprised some of you on here don't become MPs, or church leaders as clearly you are people we should all look up to.

I suspect to get knocked for this, but surely there are people who like me are sick to death of the holier than though attitude that seems to prevail on here.

I've put something similar on twitter.

What winds me up is when the words "we" and "English disease" are used.

I believe that England is one of the most accepting, tolerant countries in the world. It will never be perfect, nowhere is. Humans have a long history of not doing as they should.

Sadly, the small minority will continue to act in this way. All the teaching, all the plans, all the measures will NEVER stop it, quite simply because they are moronic & don't want to stop. They believe its their given right to act like this.

Not for one minute do I support these people or condone it, but the attitude on here is off the bloody scale.

Some of you must be almost saintly.

I'm wondering how small you think the small minority is? 1-2%, 10-20%?

Yet again on 13:10 - Jul 12 with 1005 viewsnodge_blue

I feel a bit of both.

I am totally fed up with us booing other national anthems and the general boorish behaviour that was going on by a significant number of people. Maybe the out and out hooliganism of years ago wasn't quite there, but the undertones still were.

It is sad. It taints what should have been a uniting experience back into the whole societal division that we've seen in recent years.

I don't know what the answer to it is. Its partly written into the DNA of (mainly) males. Especially when they get together and hyped up.

But equally I think there are others that want to jump on it as a stick to beat us. One of my Scottish friends has been quicker to highlight this stuff than anything good about England.

We feel like a nation on the back foot. But we voted ourselves out of Europe. We have our own four nations maybe fragmenting. It does feel like a time of introspection, but some are not willing to do that and just want to carry on in this up yours way.

Last night could have been a great thing for the country but it feels like a sad failure that is tinged with embarrassment over how some people behaved and then how some people attack those young guys who missed the penalties.

One of the most disgusting things about England is the absolute refusal of those in power and in the media to accept their own complicity in the perpetuation of racism.

Until it looked like the team was starting to do well, Raab, Patel, Johnson et al were busy demonsing players for taking the knee and were giving succour to the fans who booed them for it.

The Times, the Sun, the Mail, the Express, the Telegraph, Spiked, LBC, TalkRadio and many more have spent decades demonising minorities and immigrants and downplaying racism. Now, all of a sudden, they want you to believe they are somehow shocked and/or surprised by what they themselves have created.

Were I not an atheist, I'd love to believe there's a special section of Hell for the lot of them.

Yet you pronounce on what the minority and majority of the country think.

When asked to justify these comments, you reverse ferret and say you just call it from what you've experienced.

yet again we have someone moaning about the moaning. no one is going to come round yours and tell you off ,as you haven't read the moaning posts.
its the MINORITY in all different matters that spoil it for others, doesn't mean you can't spotlight it. this is a football forum , so people moan about those who spoil in for others.
if it was a motor forum people would post about terrible drivers . if was a dog forum people would moan about dog owners not picking up their own dog sh1te.
it goes with the territory.
so by your reckoning if people moan about football violence they are holier than thy

Well said.

It’s worth having a read up on stochastic terrorism. Clearly that’s the more extreme version but creating an atmosphere of division for political gain is very damaging and indeed dangerous.

There has to be more sense of responsibility at the top – but that increasingly seems to be the value in shortest supply amongst our politicians and media.

The head in the sand group on the board over the last 24hrs need to wake up (now we find out Rashford mural in Manchester is defaced...add that to the litany of poor acts)

We need to rephrase Englishness to the values espoused by Southgate (not perhaps his penalty taker choice values).. not the bile of Patel, and the cabinet, and CRITICALLY the Mail, Sun, Talk Radio et al... then we purge ourselves of this jingoistic, xenophobic, two world wars and one world cup mind set....

I think Tories out is too simplistic, as there are many good Tory MPs who are as disgusted with the state of the nation and this cabinet than any labour or left leaning types

I firmly think Brexit was a mistake, BUT, to make it work we need self reflection, we need to reinvent our relationship with Europe and the world... and that starts by saying no more to this little englander, empire nostalgic, jonny foreigner mind set that is endemic in english football support

Lets turn this low into a high.... lets not accept these behaviours and attitudes in this country

Also one more thing to add - WTF is this new trashing places with litter and cans and bottles all about? this ain't just happening at football events

You don't fancy a guess then. Anyway, I haven't met the entire population as one of the wise ones says below. By the same token I reckon less than 1% of the people I've ever met fall into the moronic category

OK, I'm turning this around. What you going to do about it? Obviously I appear to be as bigger problem in your eyes. So how would you solve the problem of the idiotic minority. Bitching about it on a forum with your mates has already been done

your opening post

the way I read that it says we shouldn't crictise cos its only a small number of people who behave like that

Hence my question 'at what point can we criticise?

What number makes it unacceptable?

Ok, so where to start. My guess would be it's a lot higher then 1%, but it is just a guess, so who knows. As for the line 'obviously I appear to be as bigger problem in your eyes', is this because I asked you what percentage? Seems a big jump. Same as 'bitching about it on a forum with your mates'. Asking you for a percentage is bitching about it?

Doesn't say I find it acceptable does it, so please don't suggest such a thing and follow it with sarcastic kisses.

Its not acceptable but as I've also asked in this thread, what can realistically be done. Blame the government ?(very popular stance) but these idiots have been with us through many governments.

Which will confuse some, as they seem to believe I would be anti this kind of action

maybe you could look at re-wording the OP and the tone of some of initials replies.

What can be done

quite simply anyone and everyone should make sure that they never seem to give the impression that racist or anykind of bigotry is acceptable in any way, whether its done by one person, a small group of people or a small minority

Giving that impression allows a veneer of respectability to that small minority

This isnt anything a government can do, but individual politicians by their words and actions can also create that veneer of respectability

Racist can only be stopped by the actions of individuals making a stand against it..

Those actions can be a sole protest a great personal cost against a facist government, it can be calling people out, it might just be checking your own words and actions, it must be not being seen to tolerant a small minority because its only a small number.

Thats what can be done
