"Craney had the role of kitman at Wigan but joins the Blues as a first team coach and, linking up with Cook again, will work alongside Francis Jeffers and Gary Roberts - all four coaches hailing from Liverpool.

An article on Accrington Stanley's website, published in April last year, states that Craney was working in his family bakery before he linked up with Cook in 2019."

"Gary Roberts, 37, is set to take his coaching badges this summer"

This talented foursome have given us -

Six goals conceded in two friendlies

Six goals conceded against three clubs who were non league a few seasons back

Knocked out of the League Cup by a team who were non league, last season

So expect Stan Boardman with his cutting edge wit to join us next week

Curiously, Naz Alli left Accrington in June to take up the job as kitman at Wigan - odd coincidence that

I wonder who was the kitman before

Maybe someone else left as well. Not rocket science is it?

I think he was.

Roberts has referred to him as that while he was a player at Wigan.

He also went to work at the family bakery as he wasn't interested in pursuing a coaching career.

Said similar about being a kit man;

“I absolutely love my job. You get the banter with the players and staff, working with people you have played with and keeping involved on the football side. I started my coaching badges but a kitman suits me better."

Craney himself said that he started taking his coaching badges but he thought being kitman suited him better.

On the family bakery;

“This job fits well around my family life as I’m able to pick up my six-year-old daughter from school every day.

“Since retiring from playing, I’ve had a season ticket at Liverpool. I have my coaching badges, but I don’t have any plans to get back into the game, so that’s my main link with football these days.”

That's ok, but I'd rather have a coach who is ambitious and has a passion for the job.

For some reason the build up of the coaching team has been a case of job for the boys, and unfortunately the boys are seemingly not fit for purpose. There's no point having class players if they're being given the run around by non-league staff.

https://www.swanseacity.com/news/where-are-they-now-ian-craney He also said here he had his badges but had no plans to get back into football. Things change. Who of us can tell if he is a good coach? I’d be a lot happier with Barry who Cook had at Wigan but is now at Chelsea though.
