I said elsewhere on another thread that Rashica and Tzolis are very good signings for them, and the larger european football world are very surprised they've managed it; makes me wonder what wages are being offered but they're generally well run under Webber.

I saw they signed Kabak today who was decent for Liverpool last season but they rejected the chance to sign him for 18m and went for Konate instead.

They have strengthened massively but even with that, it's still a tall ask for them to stay up. On paper their squad looks good enough for lower midtable but hopefully a few injuries etc ruins it for them again.

Yeah, Palace look a shout. Saying that any of:

- Norwich
- Palace
- Brentford
- Watford
- Burnley
- Newcastle
- Brighton
- Leeds (?)

Look susceptible.

Kabak is a reasonable player. He had a few wobbles for Liverpool last year but didn't look too bad on the whole. Having said that, regardless of the injuries at Liverpool last year, he was in a side full of talent and probably should have contributed more. Not sure he will do that much for them, although alongside Gilmour, is a good loan on paper. Haven't a clue who else they've signed, but hoping someone takes Cantwell off them before the window "slams shut".

Didn't they sell Buendia for a lot of money this window? Have they sold/released some others too? I haven't noticed any expensive signings in Premier League terms. Would be interesting to see an overall money in and money out but factor in the resetting of parachute money and Premier League revenue, it doesn't appear like they have moved away from their safety first, virtually guarantee relegation policy.

If this is accurate it would suggest a net spend of £25M which is nothing in Premier League terms. Most promoted clubs are usually spending more than that. https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/norwich-city/transfers/verein/1123

Brentford's net spend is £34M https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/fc-brentford/transfers/verein/1148

Watford's net spend may be lower but they have taken on loans and free transfers so may be spending on wages and loan fees instead.

Didn’t they get £40m ish for Buendia?

If so, they are probably break even or maybe £10m down at most

Yeah. Swear I saw something earlier where all spends minus incoming shows a negative of £35 Mill then you have new weekly wages of course too.

Like £30m + addons.

I think, assuming their loans - to - permanents happen, ChrisMakin is right at saying their net spend is only like 25-35 million. Nothing for the prem, but could be shrewd business (or a complete waste of course, but I annoyingly like a few of their signings and I follow quite a bit of European football).

Kabak is only a loan which is sensible from them. But still, let’s hope it all goes wrong for them and we’re playing in the same league next season.

This suggests they've spent over 60m if you include loan fees https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/norwich-city/transfers/verein/1123

Same here, I follow European football and it will no doubt irritate many blues to know they have bagged some genuine talent at real bargain prices. Tzolis, Normann, Kabak, Rashica were all strongly linked to top third prem teams. Not that long ago we drew 1-1 in an evenly contested game, yet within a few years we are worlds apart in the quality of our players. The harsh reality is that you could take pretty much any one of their best 11 and he will be worth more than our entire squad. We need a serious assessment of how that could have happened in such a short period of time. Here's hoping the new regime will learn a few lessons.

Burnley won't come down, I think they're a solid enough side under Dyche and have worked smartly in the market

Although, Drawing with Leeds, losing to Brighton, probably a damning assessment that they've finally hit the point of they've outlived their time in the top flight

I didn't even see they had signed Normann! They've signed him as a DM but for Rostov he was an all-rounder; but then again he was better than pretty much every midfielder in that league so it gave him license to get forwards more.

You'll be in the same boat as me then. If they weren't at Norwich it'd be so much easier because I rate a lot of these players and would normally be excited to see them in the Prem. I do still wonder if it will be enough to keep them up - but they've certainly given it a go and their sporting director made some fantastic signings.

Tzolis and Rashica for less than £20 million combined feels absolutely absurd when Villa had a £30m bid rejected for Rashica alone just a couple years ago. Shows how badly Covid has impacted clubs particularly across Europe away from the big TV money.

I'm glad they were unable to sign William Carvalho. Would've been a travesty to see him drop to the Championship next season.

Lees-Melou and Sargent are good signings for them though, but won't be enough to save them from relegation.

Must be heartbreaking for the lad. In January he was playing for the Premier league champions who had recently won th CL, looking to earn himself a permanent deal to play in front of a packed Anfield this season. He's then ended up playing in those rank colours for that lot.

I get local rivalry but never have gone for the view that you have to viscerally hate the local rival and trash everything they do just because they are your local rival. Only a few years ago we were pretty much on a par with them up the road, now take a look at the current transfermarkt values of the two squads: NCFC £170.60m, ITFC £20.36m ( https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/ipswich-town/kader/verein/677, https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/norwich-city/marktwertanalyse/verein/1123)

Anyone familiar with European football would realise they have actually done exceptionally well to pick up some genuinely top-tier talented footballers, and I suspect that this is what has enabled them to encourage other quality players into the squad. Hard as it may be, we would serve our own cause much better by analysing carefully what they have done to get to this situation rather than make comments that look exceptionally silly when viewed from an objective stance. It's a sobering thought that they now possess several players who are individually valued at twice our entire squad.

That’s the problem with PL / Sky money isn’t it. It’s ridiculous really and a club is only as good as the “income” they receive from being Sky’s prostitute , and how long a Club can continue to receive Sky money. Where it’s really wrong is Clubs getting parachute money of nearly £100m (or so it used to be), for effectively failure (relegation)….and is in fact the only thing Ive ever agreed with McCarthy on.

I notice even MOTD pundits referred to nodge as a yo-yo club! They’ve never really been prepared to “ go for it” once promoted so in my view fully deserve their relegations. I hope the6 get relegated again. Tin pot club “ existing “ on Sky money .
