Which is pretty mental really. It was September 97 when I started working in London. Seen a lot of weird stuff on here over the years.

I think I was '97 too. It's when I started out in the real world and realised it was more fun being on a football forum than dealing with clients. Can't remember my original user name though.

In those days you had to manually enter a user name......so mostly I didn't bother and the user name field was usually an extension of the post title.

Or you just pretended to be someone else with impunity.

But I was in Kent at the time so occasionally labelled myself 'Kentish' or 'Canterbury' blue.

When we signed up here, I quickly nabbed FactualBlue as he was one getting up my nose a fair bit at the time.

Gav I think took it off me a week later. Booooo

What about for people who've had an old username / account. I hope you are going to seamlessly patch those altogether Phil and get their certificates out too !!

In fairness I initially posted as ReigateBlue and changed to VilanovaBlue when I moved to Spain. 20 years ago. Haven't lived in Spain for years but kept the user name.

I was thinking that the other day - I started in September 96 - at Uni when I was doing my post grad and we had 90 minutes access a day to the computers that were connected to the internet (as opposed to most computers that were just on the uni intranet). I probably spent 60-70 of my daily minutes on TWTD rather than doing research!!

I've had five usernames in the time: LancasterBlue; EalingBlue, BasingstokeBlue, FleetBlue and then my current one (when I moved back to Kesgrave in 2005 for a year there was already a KesgraveBlue).

Things I remember most from back in the day:

- When Ullaa joined and just got pelted for weeks because he was a budgie - but I'm so glad he stuck with the Board - made me realise that there is always an exception to every rule and that it is possible to be a good guy and support Norwich.
- The Rivals board and the fiasco of moving to a new host.
- Following the Ipswich vs Bolton second leg through the forum because I was working up in Yorkshire and couldn't get back to Suffolk - hitting F5 in hope we could equalise and not really believing it when 'MAGILTON!!!!!!' suddenly popped up.
- The Ian Harte / Marcus Stewart sending off incident and our genuine belief that we could somehow organise a protest that would make a difference (how naive).

And bizarrely, having started my first job back in 1998 there was this thread about Capybaras (a large South American rodent) with a load of photoshopped pictures of said rodents - leading me to trying to explain to my new colleagues why I was crying with laughter at something on a football forum (I can still picture the 'Commando Capybara' today)

Good heavens - Ealing & Basingstoke - always liked your stuff - would never have connected those with the current 'you' if you hadn't said, tho!

Congratulations, 25 years! wowsers

I think I am about the same, it was perhaps early 1997!?

Was living abroad and remember accessing the forum via something like Netscape or Mozilla!!

God knows how much time I've spent on here with all these muppets, I mean dearly beloved Blue Army

I think I remember the message board being really basic with a Suffolk Punch background, when I first started using it

Phil - when did the forum first start please??? you stealer of lives, you

Lets have a 25 year celebration party!!

Crazily I must be coming up to a similar milestone, though i started under a different username (can't remember what I was).

Started around 97/98 I think, went to Oz and didnt post for a few years whilst away, and then got sucked back in one my return. I only remember Balham Blue from those days but only really because i lived in Balham when i moved to London.

Just think of all those glory days we've shared.......

Hey Mutters... I used to post under Asian Blue Boy back in the day, but also changed it.. amusingly I think I remember some mild racist abuse due to the moniker.. where the Asian bit was more where I was living!!

I was abroad when I first started posting, and to your point 'think of all those glory days we've shared' I remember people posting about this young lad Keiron Dyer coming through.. and was so keen to get back to blighty to watch him play, and came back to that glorious season prior to his sale... so I witnessed the start of the Burley revolution on this board in some archaic browser! and returned to watch that final two season march to the glory of Wembley.. those were the days...

not been so glorious since...

I'm sure I remember the board being really harmonious back then?! maybe that was just it all looked so positive on the pitch

Jeeze Sept 1996! think I was a little after

It seemed only unis and certain industries had the internet back then.. I was doing an MPhil at a foreign uni.. and suddenly got internet and email access....its weird to think that then there were very few people you knew who you could communicate with on the early web... then somehow found TWTD.. must have been through a search engine - Ask Jeeves!

It was also horribly & disgracefully sexist, but both mods & posters have done a fantastic job in almost eliminating that in recent years, so it's not all bad 👍

Evening,

The name Asian Blue Boy does ring a bell, but that could be clouded by the mists of time!

Those were lovely times, Burley was figuring out how we should play, we were starting to gel as a team and there were lots of promising youngsters coming through (KD especially - were you are the Watford game when he broke his leg? Will never forget the announcement for his mum to come to the changing rooms over the tannoy during halftime. The whole ground had a collective sigh when that announcement was made). Portman Road was buzzing during this period, the late 90s was a great time to be a Town fan.

I remember the song "Singing the Blues" before it became overplayed. It used to start in the North Stand as a whisper and then slowly build into a crescendo. It was a real fan anthem. I've got goosebumps just thinking about that, the noise that the North Stand used to make was unbelievable. I loved being in the middle of it all.

Playoff losses (travelling home from Charlton when the bus drove into the portcullis on one of the bridges in London was a highlight!), before finally getting to Wembly and promotion. Of course sod's law the year I disappeared to go travelling was the year we finally went up. I listened to the Wembley game on Radio Suffolk via a phone as my parents put it by the radio and I was sitting in my house in Sydney listening to it at the other end at silly o'clock. Luckily there were cheap phone cards back then so surprisingly it didn't cost that much.

I don't remember too many arguments back then on the board, a lot fewer people to fall out with and as the team was buzzing it was positive and lots of good football chat.

Those (Really) Were The Days. Blooming good ones as well.

I was a pretty prolific poster during the Burley and Royle years - but then work, marriage and kids etc took over. I probably spend 5-10 minutes a day on here now and most posts are pretty random and rarely connected to the footy since I moved down under.

I remember ABB very well - like others have said it’s odd to draw connections between current and past user names.

And yes you do sound old, but it’s also weird to think how long we’ve lived with the this silly but wonderful forum - I’m 47 and TWTD has been part of my life since I was 22.

I remember starting my undergrad at Uni of Leeds in 1992 and the uni just installed networked computers all over the campus. We all got an ‘email’ address that none of us had the slightest clue what was for - and could only be used to send emails to others on the local network, We used to get reminded every 2-3 weeks to check your emails and then scrabbling around to find what our email addresses were so we could login. I don’t think the internet had quite got there by the time I graduated in 96, so it would have been when I started my postgrad at Lancaster that autumn. I think it’s quite possible the first thing I ever searched on the internet was ‘Ipswich Town FC’ which probably led me to TWTD.
