Oxford will be chuffed coming here and getting a point

Oxford who have won four of their preceding five matches?

I'm quite chuffed we didn't lose that one.

Not a bad result, but we should be looking to win any home match.

Draw not the end of the world, but 3 home draws featuring one Town goal is not how I expected to follow the Wycombe victory.

Of course, and why not? They were under the cosh for all of the second half, so killing time at the end was just good game management. They could have got more out of the game in the first half, but in the end they'll be delighted with a point. It means we haven't gained on them and they'll know we're a direct competitor for promotion.

Mick Mills is spot on again with his analysis btw. He's a superb reader of the game and pundit.

Sounded like we did look to win it, just weren't able to. All the subs were attacking ones, we kept pushing to the end.

I probably worded it wrongly. Didn't mean that Cook didn't go out to win, more a response to being satisfied with a draw due to Oxfords form.

I'm disappointed with a draw.

They came here with the sole ambition of getting a 0-0 and showed nothing at any point to suggest they’d try and get more than the solitary point they were after.

I’m disappointed we didn’t win the game, but we didn’t lose or concede a goal. We’ve played three of the better teams on the bounce and been competitive with all three, hammering one of them.

We are improving.

It might be because that result is better than I was expecting. Today was always going to be a serious test and we came out with honours even and a clean sheet. Which is further improvement over the early part of the season.

I think it’s a great point. Oxford have been good lately. We hit the post twice and it sounds like we created a lot, and may have found a new gem in Clements. Our positive run continues, but we do need to start scoring goals again as that’s one in three now.

In the spirit of reconciliation and happiness at the end of the Banter Era (RIP) and as a result of promotion I have cleared out my ignore list. Look forwards to reading your posts!

Although ultimately just 4 points from those games isn't a great return with the ground we need to be making up. In isolation results like today and at Plymouth aren't that bad but such was our start to the season we can't afford to shrug our shoulders at that many more of those kinds of results.

Herbz, genuine question. are you expecting town to win every game until end of season?

I assume not. so surely these points are priceless. We know the start of season wasn't great, and we're playing catchup.. but that will also include games we don't win... at least a draw is better than a loss.

Never be afraid to share your thoughts.

Did you not say we needed 4 points from Wycombe and Oxford

Fast forward two weeks and now 4 isn’t enough?

They played like they wanted a draw from the off. If they wanted to win I’m sure they could have attempted to play football at some point.

So am I but I'm sure the Cook happy Clappers will be delighted! Three crap teams in a week and we cannot beat any. At least I asked Mr Cook for consistency and i got 3 draws!

I'm afraid too many have been conditioned to failure, I don't want excuses from the manager I want results.

I agree that following a disastrous start we need to be winning games week in week out and that’s what we all want to see. But against three of the top six, we have been well and truly in it and hopefully when we play them again we will win those games.

While the season to date has been disappointing and Cook’s performance in eight months poor, I just think we are going the right way now - and those back to back wins a real possibility at some point. Blind optimism? Possibly.

Today will matter less if we go to Sunderland and win, just as beating Wycombe made the Plymouth result less significant. We aren't far away but to get in the mix for promotion, which was the aim, we need to become the best side in the division over a run of games and we're not there yet. Not a result to get too down about today but not one to celebrate either. I note Wycombe lost at home again today, to Pompey this time. They might be wobbling a bit.

Oxford will be happier than us with that, although they had more chances and drew more fouls the story of the game was indecision wasn’t it?

Edwards had everything but a delivery until one across the face of the goal and no one put anything on it. Toto probably got away with a penalty as he seemed to get as much man as he did ball and the ref hesitated.

Good save from Celina possibly stopped us turning the tide. It was definitely going inside the post so pushing it away like that was a good moment from them. Very frustrating we ended up so ponderous too often in too many places really.

Aren't we in promotion form over the last 11 games? Imagine being one of the form sides and still moaning ffs.

Wycombe lost again, teams will have dips as the season progresses. We just need to maintain this level of consistency

Well we're 5th in the current form table and that's generally where we've been hovering lately, 4th or 5th. That's not promotion form though when the sides above us in the form table are also above us in the league. We have to overhaul those sides to go up. We're doing okay, big improvement from the opening 6 games. Let's see how things look after the Sunderland and Rotherham games.

Isn't it 2 points per game form of late? How on earth is that not promotion form?

That Wycombe defeat shows just how good our win at Pompey was as well doesn't it?

We're under 2 points per game in the current form table, with 11 points from our last 6 games. We're also 5th in said table, so it's really play off form rather than promotion form. We're not really gaining on the likes of Plymouth, Rotherham and Wigan as they've tended to be consistently above us in the form table as well as in the league. Hopefully they'll have a dip and we won't. We could also do with a really outstanding run where we're averaging over 2 points per game over 5 or 6 games so that we can afford a brief dip ourselves at some point. It's progress from our start of course, and that's good, but we're not the finished article.
