Putting the alleged racism to one side, which he was found not guilty of (was there an FA charge as can't remember genuinely as lower burden of proof)......having an affair and sleeping round is not particularly uncommon amongst footballers and managers
I can't say it particular enamours him to me as a person, but didn't Sir Bobby have affairs spread throughout the papers when he was England manager?
Terry was always an ultimate professional as a player, to compare him to Norwood is a bit mad in that respect
I'm not comparing Norwood to Terry other than saying both have 'off field behavioural issues'. Drink driving is awful. But so is racism, sleeping with your mate's girlfriend and brawling in clubs and bars. JT was a very good player and that's the only reason that so many people (wrongly imo) chose to turn a blind eye to his (repeatedly) appalling behaviour. Personally I wouldn't want him anywhere near my club.
JT was indeed found not guilty in a court but guilty by the FA on the racism charge - he also apologised which indicates that he said what he was allegded to have said...
From Wikipedia (yes I know...but it references the court case)
Racial abuse allegations Main article: R v Terry
In November 2011, Terry was placed under police investigation following an allegation of racist abuse made at Anton Ferdinand during a match between Chelsea and Queens Park Rangers on 23 October 2011.
In February 2012, the Football Association stripped Terry of his England captaincy for the second time, stating that Terry would not captain the national team until the racial abuse allegations against him were resolved.[215] When the trial began in July 2012, Terry entered a not guilty plea and was acquitted of the charge on 13 July 2012.[216][217]
On 27 July 2012, the FA charged Terry for using "abusive and/or insulting words and/or behaviour" which "included a reference to the ethnic origin and/or colour and/or race of Ferdinand." The FA had delayed the charge until after the conclusion of Terry's criminal trial. Terry denied the charge.[218] On the eve of the FA's hearing, Terry announced his retirement from the English national football team, saying his position had become "untenable" due to the disciplinary charge. On 27 September 2012, the hearing concluded with Terry being found guilty; he was punished with a four-match ban and a £220,000 fine.[219] In October 2012, Terry decided not to appeal against the verdict and his four-match ban and issued an apology for "the language [he] used in the game" and stated that it was "not acceptable on the football field or indeed in any walk of life."[220]

Would love this. Didn’t think it was realistic but he absolutely would be my number 1 target.
Anyone doubtful of him as a manager should watch that interview last week with Gary Neville in Lampards local pub. In 45 minutes, I went from unsure as to Lampard as a manager to thinking he’d be the best appointment we could make.
Yes I was sceptical to, until I saw the same interview , just imagine the calibre of players he could attract and bring in some cracking loan signings, like he did at Derby!! A brilliant appointment in my view

Just had a look at wikipedia and it also says the papers had to pologise and it was untrue that he had an affair with Bridge's ex-partner and that she has always denied that they were any more than friends.
The Anton Ferdinand stuff is a very bad look, and Terry no doubt has some character flaws but nearly all those high profile footballers from that generation have got some big high profile errors and issues but Terry seems to be the one who gets the most stick for it.
Interesting in a Guardian article I just read, they surmised it might be because he put the injunction on it first and Fleet Street went to town on him because of that.
I'm not particularly for JT as our next manager for various reasons but it's funny how he has a worse rep than someone like Ryan Giggs who is awaiting trial for domestic abuse, of the women he was having an affair on with his sister-in-law!

IF true (big if) we need someone who's either prepared to kick some of our players up their backsides and/or who the players respect enough to start putting the required effort in. Whilst Lampard might be able to do both, would our lot respect JT at all??
Would league 1 and championship players respect the ex England captain and Chelsea captain, who’s won pretty much everything there is to win??

To go back to your original point, JT is clearly a very divisive figure - just look at this thread. He clearly has issues and has shall we say a 'chequered past'...one which doesn't fit at all with the owners' clearly stated desire for a positive culture at the club. Comparing him to Giggs is irrelevant until such time as Giggs is linked to the job - and I'm sure you'd find a similar reaction amongst our fans....

We have had arguably worse people on our books over the years though. Marcus Bent, Bullard, Chopra, Bowyer, Lawrence, Tanner, Croft... Wasn't DJ Campbell involved with betting scams?
It's almost as if working-class lads are sometimes plonkers.

Absolutely agree with your post Bonne (apart from your rather strange last sentence), however; - none of them were manager (thank god) - players like them are one of the reasons why the owners have clearly stated that they want a change of culture

Well to be brutally honest nearly every manager has done things that people don't like - for some it gets whitewashed over and for others it gets spoken about more.
I wouldn't say John Terry is a particularly divisive figure, or a particularly bad character
‘I wouldn't say John Terry is a particularly divisive figure, or a particularly bad character‘.
Fair point. I mean cheating on his wife with his teammates missus is perhaps somewhat divisive. But hey, who hasn’t done that eh? And what part of his racist, sexist, misogynistic, egotistical nature would suggest he is a particularly bad character?
Definitely nowhere near as the previous managers character who *checks notes*, err.. said some angry things about the bunch of players that relegated us and then achieved our lowest ever finish in the football league.
Don’t want Terry. At all. Whereas i would w**k myself into a coma if we managed to get Lampard in.

Just on your top point, the affair did happen for sure.
Interviews about it since and Bridge refusing to shake Terrys hand a few days later when the teams played are two things that back that up.
On January 31, we published some personal information about Vanessa Perroncel concerning an alleged affair with the footballer John Terry. We have since been informed she would have preferred this to remain private and it was untrue in any case. We apologise to Miss Perroncel for any distress caused.

And Ms Perroncel was the ex girlfriend of Terry's team mate Wayne Bridge, not his wife.

You mean they couldn't prove it...
Also, such weird wording to put (before the "untrue" bit) "she would have preferred this to remain private". I bet she would!
Trust the process. Trust Phil.

Well if they can’t prove it then why did they report it?
If all parties say something didn’t happen, and that even if it had happened it would be behind closed doors then where is the evidence? The fact she chased it down for long enough to get an apology in the paper shows how vehemently she disagreed with it - as they would have made her life hell

I don't really understand why you are so keen to jump to the defense of John Terry. It's another strange look for you.
What ever his rights and wrongs, proven or unproven, he is clearly of dubious character off a football pitch and clearly is divisive and this thread shows.
