Hmm, not like you Joe.

Clearly states that he'll be recalled 'unless a suitable bid arises'.

EADT confirm he has been recalled, but there is a 7 day period for it to happen

Still at Town and nothing's changed or expected to with any imminence, I'm told.

Situation is slightly different from what I was told earlier. Recall has been activated this morning with a seven-day grace period on it. No imminent return though. Looks like Brighton upping the ante to try to get the deal done asap.

Wouldn't surprise me if deal gets done in next 7 days and he never goes back to Brighton

Brighton essentially making us put up or shut up, so they have the best part of 2 weeks to get him sold to the highest bidder if we don't. Otherwise they run the risk we delay until the 11th hour and they're over a barrel.

Fair enough really.

Do you know how far apart the two clubs are in their assessment of Walton's value?

If a fee is agreed, are Walton's willingness to stay and personal terms likely to be a formality?

there was some journo chat that they wanted as much as £500k, which is absolutely delusional if true

Doesn't sound unreasonable for a 26 year old keeper as good as Walton tbh.

In the circumstances, even with Walton's short contract, I'd suggest that £500k would represent a pretty good deal.

Walton is keen to stay here, really likes it here. Is close to keeper-coach Rene Gilmartin from their time at Plymouth together as well. Fee-wise, I'm not sure. I think the current move is all part of the negotiation.

Think they'd be doing extraordinarily well to get that sort of money at this point. Six months from the end of your contract any transfer fee more or less comes out of the player's pocket (in that it is money that might have gone on wages or a signing-on fee).

Any agent worth their salt is going to be telling Walton what kind of offers he might expect in the Summer, so any signing club is going to have match that and pay the fee. You'd have to be a very motivated buyer to do that and Brighton's motivated buyers are going to be us or a bottom-half Championship side without a pot to p1ss in.

If Walton wants to join us (and a deal in principle has been agreed), best thing for him to do now is to sign a pre-contract agreement with us as he's in the last 6 months of his contract. That will basically nullify Brightons tactic and make him worth basically only the value of a half season loan. If Brighton still held on to him then that would amount to sour grapes. I reckon he'll be signed up permo by us by end of Jan.

That's a very interesting point, and one I hadn't considered.

If Walton was to go down that route, Brighton's only options would be:

a) Keep him at Ipswich, with us paying some/all of his wages
b) Have him back for six months and pay 100% of his wages for nothing
c) Try and loan him out again for six months and get some sort of loan fee

If Walton really wants to be an ITFC player next season, Brighton have very little in their arsenal at this point.

Yup, yey is to get him to sign a pre-contract. I'm confident Ashton will have spotted this fairly effective move!

whatever is happening gamesmanship wise let's hope he ends up here, he would be a really good signing of intent for the future also.

They are obviously trying to get us to get everything sorted, maybe they think we are holding out to not pay a fee for him? Either way better to get the deal done now if we can afford it.

Bearing in mind this tweet also from Andy Naylor, why on earth would they want to recall Walton for footballing reasons if they're shipping out Scherpen on loan cos they can't give him a game?

Therefore it's got to be them squeezing Town's financial/contract balls hasn't it? Or am I missing something?

It would not be allowed. Walton could sign a pre-contract agreement with a foreign club, but not an English one.

If there was another club interested, we would be hearing all about it by now.

Our problem is our wage limit. How many squad players do we have with 6 months remaining o their contracts that we could offload? We need to lose at least 2, I would imagine.

They don't, they want to sell him. He's out of contract in the summer so this is their last chance to get money for him. All the rest is just negotiating.

Ah right, ta.

Reckon Gamechanger are far too clued up to let him slip through their fingers, but by the same token will bargain hard & not pay silly money.
