Get so little for what it costs. Food shop is creeping up, usually we could get a weeks shop for under £40 but hard now to do it under £50, even at Asda. Dreading my next energy bill.

Yep. I’ve always used Vpower as I’ve had my car since new, but I’m not convinced it’s a good idea any more. I always justified it on economy and looking after the engine but it is crippling me. We’ve had a year of maternity too so hopefully it’ll level out a bit but it’s very difficult to see how people on the lowest incomes will be ok. This government have really shafted them for years too.

The cost of living. Is it starting to.effect anyone? on 17:01 - Feb 2 with 903 views | ITFC_Forever | Energy prices have gone mad. Also diesel....Filled up this afternoon and it cost me almost £90. Admittedly, I was down to the last 50 miles in the tank, but I've never put that much in the car before.

The cost of living. Is it starting to.effect anyone? on 09:19 - Feb 2 by usm | Not really noticed it yet, but both ladies that work in our offices have husbands that normally commute to London, but havent done for about 2 years now. They are about £400 - £500 PM better off, ignoring travel to the station etc. They are really going to feel it when they start returning to London. |
If they return. I commuted to London yesterday and it was utterly exhausting and incredibly wasteful. I wouldn't want to work for anyone who expects a regimented pattern of X days a week in the office. I'll go there when I need to, which is rare. Petrol is expensive but I don't drive much. Electricity is the only thing spiralling out of control for me so far. Eating out seems to have gone up enormously but that's not cost of living in my book as you could just go without that. Probably the best Comic Strip film. "Look, just because my second name is Jolly doesn't mean I have to be jolly all the fking time."

The cost of living. Is it starting to.effect anyone? on 17:49 - Feb 2 with 821 views | HARRY10 | "but if I start to go back into London that's £75 a day now for the train." Selfish acts like this are destroying the country, or hitting owners of expensive inner city office blocks. If both sides are OK with this then why not ? Less hours on the train, more with the family. Less cost for the employee, and the employers. The huge increase in fuel and energy (home) will certainly mean cutting back on non essentials ie the pub, restaurant. Maybe the same food and drink, but at home. As they are less part time jobs, in those areas so it will hit families dependent on this extra cash. And one problem overlooked is no one under the age of 45 has had to deal with the effects of rising inflation before. Many at work will not see a pay rise but see everything going up inc the mortgage Still, there's always the sunny uplands to look forward to ..............
The cost of living. Is it starting to.effect anyone? on 17:51 - Feb 2 with 813 views | mylittletown | I am involved with a not-for-profit which includes a quite smart restaurant. We have done a proper audit of our food supplies, and have found that they are up 21.6% in cost since December 2020. They are not necessarily the supplies any of us would buy much of at home, but coupled with the horrendous staff shortages causing hefty wage inflation, we are going to have to raise our prices by at least 25%, and we are not even trying to make a commercial level profit.

I'm glad all my mileage these days is local. As a family we can't be racking up more than 12k/yr miles on 2 cars, but I used to easily manage 25-30k on my own back when I had very little money. I certainly couldn't afford those commutes nowadays, so god knows what people do who live a fair way from work. Mind you, I'd love to spend £50 on a week's food shop. £200 is probably closer to the mark for us as the kids are skips.
