The death penalty 09:17 - Mar 10 with 19760 views | SitfcB | Bring it back. Especially for scum like Ian Huntley. How much does looking after that c**t, and others like him, in prison cost the UK taxpayer? Waste of resources.

The death penalty on 10:19 - Mar 10 by SitfcB | I’m sure they’d be a queue of people that would kill Huntley for free, heck some people may even pay to do it! Not saying bring it back how it was, just annoying these wasters live a life paid by us. |
The method was not the problem. Hanging as it was conducted in the 20th century in the UK was about as quick and humane a method of execution as is possible. If done efficiently, it was considerably quicker than lethal injection, as little as 12 seconds from entering the condemned cell. But even the noted hangman Albert Pierrepoint did not consider it a deterrant. Worth looking at the cases of Timothy Evans, Derek Bentley and Ruth Ellis (all hanged by Pierrepoint) to see why the death penalty for murder is unreliable or excessive. Also the Birmingham Six, who would have been executed had it not been abolished. There is no way to make a legal distinction based upon reliability of conviction (i.e. "he definitely did it"). All those found guilty are so upon the basis of 'beyond all reasonable doubt'. Unless and until proven otherwise, the process is considered to be flawless - the court may be unaware that information had been carelessly interpreted, withheld or confessions extorted. The only way around it is to keep the condemned alive in prison for the best part of 20 years worth of appeals, as they do in the US. Which is about the same length of time as the average Life Sentence in the UK*. * However, those sentenced to Life are never completely released, but can be recalled to prison if conditions are broken.

Oh for heaven's sake, literally nobody is sympathetic to Huntley. You insinuating here that people who are anti-death penalty on a point of principle are sympathetic to him is as disgusting as your torture porn fantasy posts are. Grow up.

The death penalty on 12:24 - Mar 10 with 1269 views | J2BLUE | Most rational people would be against the death penalty when they are calm but i'm sure we have all seen something in the news which has made us briefly reconsider. Sitters is human. Huntley is scum. Sometimes in the heat of the moment it's easy to let yourself wish death upon people like Huntley.

You may have accidentally hit on the solution here sitters. Cut the balls of a sex offender off, and if it is later found to have been a miscarriage of justice then we just sew them back on.

There was a new documentary on the Soham murders on channel 5 last night, part two tonight, which prompted me to think about it. I was only 10 at the time, the same age as the girls :(, I have a little recollection of it from back then and have seen bits and pieces of programmes about it before but this current one a bit more in depth and it’s just unbelievable what he done when the search was going on etc let alone what he actually done. How anyone can do what he did and then have the audacity to speak to the press etc so openly and brazen. Vile.

This is an interesting map. Bizarre to think that the French were still beheading people as recently as 1977.

Well that's what a court case would need to establish but someone was guilty of cold blooded murder that day, which is my point. The Rules Of Engagement are pretty clear and so ultimately the soldier pulling the trigger is responsible for his actions.
