Absolute tossers. People today trying to go about their work, including me, and diesel was like gold dust. People worrying how they are going to earn a crust. Nine petrol stations on our route before we found diesel. Others were not so lucky. If they are going to sit in the road water cannon the lot of them. Rant over, happy easter.

What would be an acceptable way to protest against the fossil fuel industry that is effective, whilst also not inhibiting the processing and distribution of said fuel?

Genuine question.

Educate people not antagonise. They are seriously doing the cause more damage than good.

How much more education can possibly be needed to tell people that fossil fuels are bad?

We've been told they're bad for nearly half a century. Repeatedly.

Next suggestion.

buy less fossil fuel??
do all the things that you need to do to reduce emissions - drive less, drive electric, use public transport, don't fly, buy local. the fossil fuel industry exists because we all buy fossil fuels.

That would help for sure, but them stopping the tankers would seem to help in that regard.

Everyone knows they are bad so educate people how they can do their bit to help to reduce them . You can't cut them overnight but you can take someone's livelihood, endanger people's lives and piss off the people you want to change overnight. They are alienating themselves rather than galvanising support.

But we did get a garden bridge, I think

Do you know anything about the garden bridge project or are you just being a bit edgy?

It would have been a brilliant thing, unfortunately some people - like yourself - had / have / no real idea about what it was all about.

And before you Google it and try and be an expert it was Joanna Lumly's idea.

How do you educate someone to not use diesel?

Again, there's nothing to educate here. You either use a diesel car or you don't. And unfortunately we've left it so late (because nobody was listening the last 40 odd years) that now it's going to be incredibly painful for all of us to make significant cuts in our carbon footprint.

I'm not even saying what they are doing is right but no matter what they do, someone will get the hump and say they should protest in a different way. There is no way to successfully protest without pissing someone off. That's why they are effective.

Diesel is being fazed out. Diesel vehicles will be no more. That doesn't help the builder trying to get to work with a 5 year old van today.

I can understand that they feel the need to protest but ultimately they are cretins, in fact, to be honest I would have more respect for them if they believed in what they were doing or knew what they were talking about. Quite frankly they are a bunch of weirdos.

Hard fuels are a problem and I think we realise this now. You cannot change things by gluing yourself to a reception desk with what is probably an oil based glue anyway.

Surely the way out of this is for government to talk about this with Big Oil.

Rather than tax the sh1t of them we say - Ok, you should have paid us 1000 billion in tax but here's the thing - you can keep half of that if you invest in finding cleaner fuels.

And if they take the p1ss you shut them down.

It's only Big Oil who can change things, no one else has the money or clout - and I include governments.

Man is the only thing that can address this by technology. If you think eating a bit less meat or munching on spring onions will change things then you are completely deluded.

Because its not just about only diesel van. Do you eat meat. Does that make you part of the problem. Do the protesters eat meat. Does that make them part of the problem. What about veg. How many fossil fuels are used in the start to delivery of veg production. What is the answer. We can't get away from it overnight but we can get away from it gradually without impacting the working man .

I have tried, but failed.
Local council blocked planning permission to add a driveway to our house because we live in an area of outstanding natural beauty (despite the eyesore concrete garages about 200 yards from our house!).
If we don't have a driveway, we can't park a car to charge it. And I'm sure there would be problems with trailing an extension lead into the road.
There are many people who would like to go electric, but can't due to logistics and/or cost. So until it is possible, we have to keep on burning fossil fuels.

It was pointed out to me a while back by someone who works on the national grid that if we all went electric the power supply could not cope.

They're not asking to get away from it over night, they are asking to stop new oil while we have reserves for another 8 years. If there was an army of 2 billion soldiers on our doorstep demanding we end new oil or they will nuke us to oblivion we would do it in a second and we'd find a way to deal with it. Because most people in the global north don't feel the effects of climate change on a day to day basis and keep thinking it's a problem for tomorrow they couldn't give two fks.

Peaceful protest and education has been happening for decades and yet we are still INCREASING our fossil fuel production. Time is up, more drastic action is needed.

It absolutely could not cope in any way - definite info.

Also - how is electricity produced? Most electricity is produced by fossil fuels at the moment.

Another reason to do a deal with Big Oil.

Don't kill them - work with them!
