Starmer to resign 15:12 - May 9 with 10666 views | GlasgowBlue | If he's issued an FPN*. Very clever and puts the ball back into Johnson's court. *Durham Police have already said that they do not issue FPN's retrospectively, so he won't need to resign even of found guilty of breaking the lockdown rules.

Starmer to resign on 17:35 - May 9 by SamWhiteUK | I'm just imagining all the comments that would be made about Johnson being "slippery" if the roles were reversed, rather than praising him for being "very clever". |
The roles aren't reversed though - Johnson blatantly broke the rules and got fined for it.

Starmer to resign on 14:57 - May 10 with 1817 views | Pinewoodblue | I have misgivings about all of these, after the event, investigations. The purpose of the legislation was to stop people socialising , it was never intended to be to investigate after the event. Hence why Durham Police took no action with regards to Dominic Cummings. I really don’t think any formal action should be taken over beergate apart from issue a warning. I know it won’t be popular, on here, but Boris Johnson and Co should also have just be warned and not issued with a fine. Starmer’s attitude, his threat to resign if issued with a fixed penalty, is stupid. If he wants to be righteous he should accept the Issue of a fixed penalty, not pay it and and let it go to court. Johnson’s government leaves much to be desired but I am not convinced Starmer provides an acceptable alternative.

Probably right. on Johnson. Terrible waste of money and time after the event. Sue Grey should have been quite enough without police involvement. So far as anyone can see currently, Starmer hasnt done anything wrong though

Starmer to resign on 19:02 - May 9 by gazzer1999 | You prove Johnson sent out invites personally and I for one will believe you. However what is clear is your continued use of abuse about peoples weight and appearance. I will also ask you again to remove an ageist comment you made last week. You clearly think you have a moral duty to wind people up on this forum and thats fine but when you continue to keep using ageist and fat shaming as a tool you cross the line. Any moderator monitoring this forum would think the same, refrain from that language or keep your views to yourself, it is hate fuelled, and I think you know it as you are testing boundaries. Count the abusive words. |
Stop deflecting from your lying, law-breaking leader.

Starmer to resign on 22:29 - May 9 by jeera | Don't be silly. No one is shaming people's weight. Just one person is receiving insults. There's a handful on here who have run out of excuses for Johnson so have grabbed onto this with all their might because that's all they seemingly have left. Have a shot at explaining how this person is still running our country and why, if you still believe it, he is the right man for the job. Looking for Harry's comments to leap on is a bit easy really and is easily ignored. Stick him on ignore. Let's focus on the state of things and what can be done to put that right before worrying about a complete stranger insulting our ridiculous, piss-taking politicians in power. Edit: typo. Indeed. And the irony here is Johnson has said far worse things about minorities. I didn't see gazzer up in arms about those though.

Starmer to resign on 09:24 - May 10 by SouperJim | He's not going to be found to have broken the rules though is he, because he didn't. Regardless of your political persuasion, it's quite clear that on multiple occasions the tories had a jolly up during lockdown. Starmer on the other hand, got caught on some wobbly phone footage through a window having a meal during a night when they were working on an election campaign. I worked through lockdown. I ate my lunch in the office every day while chatting to my colleagues, as did millions of others up and down the country. Did we break the rules? Of course not. It's completely laughable. For any moderate individual looking at what the two actually got up to, one lot broke the rules, the other lot didn't. The ones that did are just desperately trying to paint the other lot as as bad as they are to detract from the scandal-infested car crash which is their administration. |
Yep. Quite obviously. Anyone with half a brain can see this. Frankly it's a worry that some people fall for it. Unless they want to fall for it.

The Durham police (I thought I better stress that for all those who don't know better) are investigating a "workplace gathering" to see if it broke Covid laws created by a law-breaking (confirmed) Tory government. I don't think they are investigating the reason behind P45's from a year ago.

Indeed. Ullaa loves his fantasy horseshoe stuff but people on the left see the Beergate stuff as all a bit silly and trumped up. But it would be quite amusing if Starmer had to resign over something so silly that he’s doubled and tripled down on.

Oh absolutely. Although in the football setting blue is the colour of childhood summer days. In the political setting, it’s the colour of the devil’s testicles. The big defenders against the supposed “extreme left” (perhaps a trip to Scandinavia would cure their blindness?) are fairly indistinguishable from most Tories on most issues. And that’s also why they love Starmer so much.

Regardless of your political persuasion, does anyone see any difference between Starmer and 15 other people eating and drinking beer indoors between work meetings and Johnson and members of his staff eating and drinking wine outdoors between work meetings? Because when that photo of people sitting socially distanced in the garden of No 10 caused absolute uproar on here for a few days. People couldn't believe that alcohol could be drunk in a working environment. Personally, I think both cases are utter nonsense and neither is like the ABBA parties or rolling into No 10 with a supermarket trolley of cheap plonk. But we aren't seeing a lot of consistency on this from people dismissing Beergate as nonsense but were all over the No 10 Garden meeting.

I see you've started early with the pot stirring/smearing. Why are you plucking out one particular Tory party to hold up against Starmer's beer? Surely you have to compare everything Labour has (supposedly) done with everything the Tories have. And if you do, there's no comparison. You're latching onto every little thing, just as the right wing press did, and just as you did with Corbyn. Strap in. Here we go again.

I think Starmer has done absolutely nothing wrong. I think it would be utter nonsense to issue him with a FNP. Starmer has done everything internally with the Labour party that I could have wished for and I have voted for his party at the last two elections. Boris Johnson, however, is an utterly appalling human being sand a terrible Prime Minister. With regards to partygte it seems pretty obvious that he has overseen a culture of partying and drinking in number 10 during a period while the rest of us had to stay at home. So let's put to bed the "pot stirring/smearing". The is nothing to smear him about. Starmer has done nothing wrong imo. Now back to my question, Regardless of your political persuasion, does anyone see any difference between Starmer and 15 other people eating and drinking beer indoors between work meetings and Johnson and members of his staff eating and drinking wine outdoors between work meetings?

From the looks of things no. Because the No 10 drinks in the garden is socially distanced, whilst the drinks and curry in the miners hall doesn't appear to be. That would suggest that there were stricter rules when the number 10 drinks took place. I have a feeling that both will be found to have been against the rules. I think those rules are silly in both instances as these people are working together all day long. I don't think either case needed to be investigated and are nothing like the other parties at number 10 that have been reported. The reason I asked the question was because of the attitude at the time to people drinking whilst working. As if it was something people couldn't comprehend. No one seems bothered that KS was drinking on the job.

Yes. Labour at the Scottish Parliamentary elections last year and Labour in the local elections last week. Your last pra is bizarre. Both the miners hall drinks between meetings and the no 10 garden drinks between meetings seem almost identical. Now who am I trying to smear? Starmer is a man of honesty and integrity. Johnson os a liar and an incompetent. [Post edited 10 May 2022 21:18]

If ever there were a reason to question the direction of travel under Starmer. Doubt it's true though. And even if it is, it's a useless protest vote in most of Scotland.

I completely agree with you that there is nothing to see here. So why was there utter amazement that people drink on the job when the garden photos were released? Forget the law breaking argument for a minute. People couldn't get their heads around people drinking at a workplace in between meetings.
